Ok, let me give you my honest opinion on this track by Swedish melodic metal band, which can be summed up in just one word…WOW!
The band is fronted by Alice, a pop singer who answered a advert looking for a “pop singer for a metal project” and what a voice she has. Reminiscent of bands such as Evanescence, After Forever and later Nightwish, Alice had no experience of working in the metal world, but she couldn’t have been a better fit with her strong yet not overly operatic voice, which I personally think gives the tracks more singalongability!
The song has great, crunching riffs and the bass and drum section are awesome, keeping the song tight and together throughout. There is a fantastic guitar solo midway through the track, and this doesn’t take away from the raw, edgy vibe the song has.
Despite what a lot of people say about synths not belonging in metal, I think this track has great use of them, creating a symphonic, electronic sound that fits perfectly with the theme of the song.
With power metal, melodic death metal and progressive metal influences, along with the pop influences of the singer, this band stands with one foot in the metal genre and the other in the pop, exposing them to whole range of listeners.
The more I listen to this song, the more I like it and I, for one, can’t wait to hear more from this band!
