Nerumia is a melodic death metal band from Lausanne in Switzerland. They were formed in 2002 and released their debut album I Don’t Understand in 2007. They returned in 2021 with their new album Fatal Delirium which was released on 10th February.
An monster of an album, Fatal Delirium is ten tracks full of awesome death-metal goodiness (ok, I know the two don’t appear to go together but listen to this album and you will see what I mean!)
The band have had their fair share of tragedies from deaths to having to rebuild to taking a long hiatus and to come back with an album of this quality must have taken some grit and determination.
The band have a passion for music and this shows in this album, as it combines both old school death metal with some elements of the more modern death metal sound, to create something that is unique to them and also very technical and versatile.
With Pasquale Rivetti on lead and backing vocals and rhythm guitar and Magnus on backing vocals and bass, drums are provided by invited musicians, and this is obviously a formula that works for the band.
The album is very guitar-driven with heavy, pounding riffs that will vibrate through you to the very pit of your stomach. The guitars are fast when they need to be, giving the album a black metal vibe to it but chugging at other times. The drums are frenetic and full of energy and the bass lines are thumping. Clean guitar solos dot the album, reminiscent of Chuck Shuldiner of Death and the speed and pace of the tracks varies from each one to the next.
The vocals are typically death metal, deep and growling, almost inaudible at times, but also black metal influences creep in here too, making the lyrics really stand out from the music.
The guys have also created a very atmospheric album, the distortion on the guitars and the vocals adding effectively to this.
This album is a great combination of old school death metal, modern death metal and black metal with the hint of thrash and modern heavy metal thrown in too and this will make the album have a wide appeal.
This is a band that needs to be heard and I urge fans of all the genres previously mentioned to head on over to Spotify or Bandcamp and check these guys out. This could be a death metal classic in the making!
