Oceanless – Isolation

Oceanless is a Manchester based trio consisting of Will Mcgarrie (Singer & Guitarist), George Sheasby (Drummer), and James Tunstall (Lead Guitarist) and Isolation is their latest single, released on 02/06/2023.

A fusion of grunge, shoegaze and electro-pop, this threesome have come up with a sound that is unique to them.

The guitar work is heavy yet distorted, giving the track the fuzziness of grunge, although there are some elements of psychedelia creeping in with this too, and the listener could be forgiven for thinking this track was written anywhere between the 60’s to the 90’s.

Musically, this track is fantastic and the cross over between genres and style of playing is clear for all to hear. There is a haziness to the track that really gives it depth, character, and an atmospheric, almost haunting vibe.

The music on this track suppresses the vocals into the background but this is done in a shoe-gaze way, with the lines between the music and the lyrics being blurred and distorted so the two sound as if they were one.

However, this doesn’t mean the vocals are weaker than the music. In fact, the opposite is true, and it is the music that is strong enough for the vocals. The singer’s voice is strong and powerful, and with a typical Manchester alternative rock lilt to his singing, there is a bit of an attitude there too.

This is a great tune and I really do look forward to hearing much more from them in the very near future!
