Metal Planet Media Talks To BornBroken

Michael Decker answering Questions

Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band and a little bit about the various members?

Michael Decker – Vocals/Rhythm Guitar and last original founding member

Mike Marino – Bass

Rob Henx- Lead Guitar (Newest Member after recording)

Carlos Ojeda – Drums

The name originated with our first vocalist, while we were searching for a band name back in 2008, he kinda just blurted out the name while we were driving to jam…we immediately knew that was it. We made as one word BORNBROKEN for all online stuff back then.

The history is long as we have had plenty of turnover in the band lineup over the years.  People grow up and tastes change, but we feel we have a really strong lineup for this latest release, we have all been playing music since we were kids, so it’s all in our blood.

We have 3 albums including the last out now and a couple of singles since 2013, our sound has evolved into what we are now. We play what we want, which I feel makes the music and lyrics come across more authentic.

Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?

Mike and I are from Montreal, Carlos is from Mexico and Rob is from Brazil

Who are your favourite artists/bands and how have they influenced your own sound?

A. There are too many new great bands coming out, we try to listen to them all, but sometimes it’s the old tried and true bands from our youth that keep coming back that really keep influencing us ( Slayer, Pantera, Machine Head, Chimiara, Old Metallica, Biohazard, Exodus, Testament to name a few)

Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band or did you originally have other plans?

Yes it’s what we all always wanted to do, from a young age. I feel every musician will say the same thing.

What songs or albums are on your current playlist?

I’m listening to a lot of Paleface Swiss and Spite right now, but there is so much it’s hard not to jump the flavour of the day.

Do you sing in the shower?

No, I try to shut my brain off, but it never works

Do you have any plans for the band for this year and into next year?

The plan is to never give up and keep this band alive till we can’t do it anymore.

If you could play at any venue in the world where would you choose?

We have all played a couple of major festivals going back to 97’ with all of our past bands. Right now there are plenty of great new festivals coming out, it would be nice to get on a summer run of them all…

Do you have a favourite album? If so, what is it?

It always comes back to BURN MY EYES-Machine Head

Do you have any guilty pleasure songs/albums?

I really like Pain of Salvation and King’s X

If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be playing?

They are already being put together, but I guess it would be a show where all genres could come together, Pop, Country, Top 40, RnB, Rap, Metal etc. It could introduce a lot of people to styles that they are not usually familiar with or listen to. Check your egos at the gate…

Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What was it and do you still have it?

I was already listening to a lot of music from the 70’s early 80’s my family had on LPs they were into a lot of cool music, so maybe it helped.

Level 42- World Machine, loved the groove and melody in it,  I soon switched gears after that to Slayer/Metallica/ and every other metal band I could get my hands on, glam/thrash/speed it didn’t matter if it was a great time for music.

no, I do not still have it, I had a fire at my house when I was 15 and lost of all my cassette collection and music gear, that was a hard day for a young musician.

As your fans will be reading this, is there any message you would like to send out to them?

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, without you, we are playing to ourselves. You make it all worthwhile when we hear from all of you around the world, saying what you like about our music and how it has helped you out during tough times.

We, at Metal Planet Media, would like to thank you for your time. Is there is anything further that you would like to add?

I will answer for all the members of the Band. we all have been doing it since we were kids, When the eternal flame of slayer burns deep inside your soul, what else do you do…. You Express it through Music. It’s who we are and how people know us and how we would like to be remembered.

Take care and thank you for the interview!

Metal Planet Media Talks To…. Patrik Svendsen from Tonic Breed

Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band, and a little bit about the various members?

The name Tonic Breed was chosen after a brainstorming session, without any deep meaning behind it. The band hails from Sarpsborg, Norway, and started as a group of friends who shared a passion for metal and rock. Over the years, the band has evolved both in sound and lineup, experimenting with different styles and influences while maintaining a strong foundation in heavy metal.

Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?

Yes, the core of the band members are from Sarpsborg. The different lineups through the years have been from different areas in Norway.

Who are your favorite artists/bands, and how have they influenced your own sound?

Some of our biggest influences include Metallica, Pantera, Black Sabbath, and more. These bands have shaped our sound, particularly in terms of energy, heavy riffs, and thematic songwriting. We also take inspiration from contemporary genres to give our music a modern edge.

Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band, or did you originally have other plans?

For most of us, the dream of being a musician was always there. Growing up listening to heavy metal, the idea of playing music and being part of a band felt like a natural path. Some of us had other interests, but music was always the dominant passion.

What songs or albums are on your current playlist?

Right now, the playlist is filled with everything, old and new. A couple of newcomers are songs from Judas Priest’s, Invincible Shield. Gunship recently released their album, Unicorn, I think that was a great release.

Do you sing in the shower?

Who doesn’t? The shower is where some of the best ideas come from. I tend to sing riff ideas more than lyrics tho.

Do you have any plans for the band for this year and into next year?

There are some exciting projects in the works, but I can’t reveal too much yet. I’m constantly writing new material.

If you could play at any venue in the world, where would you choose?

Playing at Wacken Open Air would be a dream come true. The festival has become a landmark for metal bands, and performing on that stage would be the ultimate recognition of our music.

Do you have a favorite album? If so, what is it?

Far Beyond Driven by Pantera is an excellent album. It has everything—emotion, technical prowess, and timeless appeal.

Do you have any guilty pleasure songs/albums?

There’s no guilt in enjoying good music! But, if we had to pick something unexpected, it would probably be in the line of synthwave, which is pretty far from metal, but still super catchy and interesting.

If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be playing?

90’s Pantera, Metallica ’86 with Cliff, Nirvana, Motorhead and The Beatles. That would make for one legendary night of music.

Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What was it and do you still have it?

The first album purchased was Ecliptica by Sonata Arctica. I still have it!

As your fans will be reading this, is there any message you would like to send out to them?

We want to thank our fans for their continued support. Without you, none of this would be possible. Keep the metal spirit alive, and we can’t wait to see you at a show soon!

LORD OF THE LOST Unveils New Album Trilogy, Beginning With “OPVS NOIR Vol. 1”!

A work, a transformation, a re-entry into the melancholic self – OPVS NOIR is in no danger of becoming an offspring of understatement, neither in its title nor in its musical opulence. And rightly so: Not only will it be the first album as a six-piece band, but it also marks the beginning of an entire album trilogy, set to be released in multiple editions, including, of course, strictly limited collector’s items.

Each volume contains 11 songs, totaling 33 tracks that not only conclude the delightfully eccentric chapter of Blood & Glitter, but also initiate an uncompromising return to the dark core of the band. While LORD OF THE LOST previously found themselves in the spotlight of vast open stages, OPVS NOIR Vol. 1, set for release on August 8, 2025 via Napalm Records, represents a confident descent into previously untouched emotional depths.

Chris Harms about the album:
“Darkness, melancholy, loneliness – all words that often have negative connotations, that we may associate with danger, sadness and loss, and not without reason. But darkness can also be security, melancholy the warm and sentimental feeling of our memories, and loneliness becomes necessary silence, peace and inner contemplation. OPVS NOIR is a travel guide, or perhaps also a travelogue, through the dark sides of our inner world, which so often move precisely in the area of tension between what we emotionally categorize as positive or negative. And with Vol. 1, all of this is just the beginning of this 3-part journey…”

OPVS NOIR is not only a musically exciting step but also a bold one! This becomes clear when looking at LORD OF THE LOST‘s immediate past: support for IRON MAIDEN on two European tours, followed by their first North American shows in over a decade, sold-out headlining tours, participation in the final of the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2023, a #1 chart entry with the previous album Blood & Glitter, celebrated performances at the biggest festivals worldwide – they even had the honour of meeting King Charles in person. Hand on heart: How easy would it have been to keep riding this wave of success just a little longer? But that’s not how LORD OF THE LOST operates – the only constant remains change.

But what is the essence of LORD OF THE LOST in 2025? That is one of the questions OPVS NOIR Vol. 1 fearlessly begins to answer. Once again, the band proves not only musical excellence but also masterful craftsmanship: Produced by Chris Harms, recorded, mixed, and mastered at the legendary CHAMELEON STUDIOS in Hamburg, the 11 tracks hit with a force and brilliance that immediately transport us into a dark yet colourful ballroom. From there, the tone is set: Dark Wave Metal on an amphitheater scale.

Everything is new, yet every note feels familiar. Behind each chorus awaits a surprise, in every line, a new door opens to further uncharted paths within the LOTL universe. This band takes the expectations of its ever-growing fanbase and molds them into songs that transcend genre boundaries – and turn moments into monuments that carry us all along: No one lost behind!

OPVS NOIR Vol. 1: To be continued…

MORNINGSTVR Announces New Black Metal Album “A Fate Engraved” With Teaser Trailer

Synth-Based Black Metal artist Morningstvr (Sam Tchortov) has announced his highly anticipated new album “A Fate Engraved”, scheduled for release on June 20, 2025. The announcement comes alongside a haunting album trailer that offers listeners a glimpse into the frozen medieval landscapes that characterize this ambitious project. Tchortov comments on what lies within:

“A Fate Engraved” is an epic collection of tales continued from its predecessor in the trinity, “In Memoriam of the Blvck Wind” and tells of a land far to the north of the world, with cold and abysmal ranges covered in snow, ancient structures of an empire from a forgotten age, much like in the image of the medieval period, continuing the tales of Slavic witchcraft, knights charging their last battles, betrayal, heartbreak and rituals upon a full moon.”

“A Fate Engraved” marks the second installment in what Morningstvr calls his “Unholy Trinity”, which draws deep inspiration from the medieval period, ancient kingdoms, and Tolkien’s legendarium, the album promises to transport listeners to ‘a vast medieval land in the dead of winter’ where tales of witches, knights, and forgotten kingdoms unfold against a backdrop of blistering synth-based black metal.

Tchortov describes the project as ‘a culmination of everything needed for a trilogy raised from a cold, damp, esoteric story’ and ‘nothing short of a collection of a puzzle that will transport you into the frozen hell’. With twelve tracks spanning over 44 minutes, “A Fate Engraved” showcases Morningstvr‘s continued evolution within the Synth-based black metal subgenre. It is recommended for fans of Darkthrone, Xasthur, and Hekseblad.

Opening the journey of ´Til the Sea Shall Give up Her Dead is “The Cranker”, a darkly captivating tale of cursed sailors spiraling into a frenetic dance. Meanwhile, “Waves Away”, a sorrowful yet beautiful ballad that captures the bittersweet essence of life at sea and “As The Tree Falls” is a haunting maritime ballad of love, loss, and fate and acoustic textures to explore themes of love and loss. The full range and variation of the sea – stormy, shallow and romantic – captured in one album.

YE BANISHED PRIVATEERS say about the album:
“We wrote this album as a haunting voyage through the precarious lives of 18th-century sailors, exploring the omnipresence of death and loss on the open seas. The twelve tracks weave together tales of tragedy, camaraderie, and fleeting triumphs, highlighting the sailors’ resilience in the face of their ephemeral existence. ´Til the Sea Shall Give up Her Dead is a lament for those lost to the depths and a meditation of gallows humour on the fragility of life under the shadow of the mast.”

Tech-Death Juggernaut, OMINOUS RUIN, Releasing Requiem on Willowtip in May

San Franisco (CA) – Ominous Ruin, the American death metal juggernaut known for their intricate compositions and unrelenting sonic brutality, has returned with their highly anticipated nine-track album, RequiemWillowtip Records will release Requiem May 9 on CD, vinyl, and digital formats.

The official video for the album’s first single, “Seeds of Entropy,” has been premiered by Invisible Oranges. Check it out at the following link:

invisibleoranges.com/ominous-ruin-premiere

Seeds of Entropy” is an explosion of chaotic riffs, intense vocals and rapid fire drums at a dizzying 270 beats per minute. The song begins after the intro to the album, a piano and guitar duet that represent a continuation from Ominous Ruin’s previous full length, Amidst Voices that Echo in Stone. Picking up from said album, “Seeds of Entropy” utilizes many of the same musical phrases and stylings, while expanding on motifs from Amidst Voices that Echo in Stone at even faster speeds. Lyrically, “Seeds of Entropy” represents the beginning of inevitable slip into darkness as entropy consumes reality, both physical and mental form. This theme is masterfully expanded on throughout the rest of the album.

Seeds of Entropy” will be available March 7 on all digital platforms. Requiem album pre-orders will be available on the same day.

A formidable leap forward in both musical complexity and emotional depth, Requiem is a powerful exploration of the human psyche, the ravages of time, and the inevitable descent into oblivion. Requiem is at its core, a continuation of Ominous Ruin’s first release, Amidst Voices that Echo in Stone. Beyond that, its conception spawned from the raw emotion of personal issues and turmoil, as it was created during a dark time in the band’s lives.

The album begins with a direct continuation from the final song off Ominous Ruin’s first album, an emotional guitar and piano ballad that brings the mood to somber, yet melodic. It immediately transitions to an explosion of chaos with the first song, “Seeds of Entropy. “

The musicianship on Requiem is, as expected, nothing short of exceptional. Guitarists Alex Bacey and Joel Guernsey showcase their technical brilliance in every track, with blistering solos and complex, interwoven riffs that keep listeners on their toes. The rhythm section, comprised of Mitch Yoesle (bass) and Harley Blandford (drums), is hardly just a rhythm section, that provides a relentless foundation of precision, power and creativity, anchoring the music as it constantly shifts between ferocity and atmospheric beauty.

The production, handled by Alex Bacey is pristine yet dense, allowing every instrument to shine through the brutal wall of sound without sacrificing the intensity of the compositions. The layering of ambient soundscapes and acoustic passages throughout the album provides an immersive listening experience, allowing the heavier elements to hit even harder when they arrive.

3 – Eternal

4 – Bane of Syzygial Triality

DISSOCIA enters the mind of multi-instrumentalist Daniel R. Flys (PersefoneEternal Storm) as the sonic landscape between two realms: the conscious and the unconscious. With ferocious and convoluted riffs, dreamy synths, extreme and subtle clean vocals, we enter this in-between world backed by Gabriel Valcázar’s (WormedCancer) chaotic and groove drumming and Paul R. Flys’ cinematic violin layers.

Mixed and mastered by the prestigious Ukrainian engineer Max Morton (Jinjer, Ignea, Shokran), To Lift The Veil is a concept album that serves as a metaphor for being a growing seed in an asphalted world. DISSOCIA makes an effort to blend extreme metal with synthwave and dreamwave elements to create a fine progressive blend that is catchy and yet unpredictable to the listener. Further developing this mood, the stunning and oneiric artwork created by Rein Van Oyen (Haken) captures the lights and shadows present on the dynamic songwriting and all the contrasts found on the duo’s debut.
