The Metal Asylum Talks To Shivered, Band Members : Mohammad Maki

Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band and a little bit about the various members?

Back in 2015 I was done with my previous band called “ Lorn “ due to legal issues with the band name and personal issues so I formed Shivered, I was googling stuff and names then I come up with the name “ Shivered “ it sounds kind of disturbing and unsettling and it fits with the kind of music I’m make so I picked it as the band name, as of now Shivered is basically my solo project and I do all the instruments, I’ve worked with session musicians before but right now I’m the only member.

Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?

Unfortunately I never had opportunity to have somebody else in the band to have an impact on the songwriting, I’m from Iran and that’s it.

Who are your favourite artists/bands and how have they influenced your own sound?

I have large amount of favorite artists but the main and easy ones that I can pick are : Katatonia, Paradise Lost , Swallow the Sun , Warning and Type O Negative

Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band or did you originally have other plans?

Since I was a kid and got into rock and metal music when I was eleven years old I insisted my parents to get me an electric guitar and when I got it it’s been my passion and my dream to make music.

What songs or albums are on your current playlist?

“ Elysion – Silent Scream “ – “ My Dying Bride – A Mortal Binding “

Do you sing in the shower?

I sing like a mentally troubled teenager and growl like a bear while showering.

Do you have any plans for the band for this year and into next year?

I’m working on something new and different but I don’t know when will it come out, I do my best it doesn’t take another 6 years for sure

Do you currently have any new songs/albums ready to be released?

“ Existential Mourning “ is my upcoming full album that will come out on May 20 2024

If you could play at any venue in the world where would you choose?

Wembley Stadium , London

Do you have a favourite album? If so, what is it?

Very hard question but probably “ The Great Cold Distance “ by Katatonia

Do you have any guilty pleasure songs/albums?

I listen couple of old Avril Lavigne stuff lol I mean I’m not a fan but I used to listen to her when I was a kid so yeah that might be it.

If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be playing?

I have to bring back some deceased musicians from heaven for that to happen, Type O Negative’s Peter Steele on Vocals and bass – Dimebag on Guitars and Joey Jordison on drums would make a great show.

Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What was it and do you still have it?

I think it was Evanescence self-titled record and I bought it digitally and nope I lost the files.

As your fans will be reading this, is there any message you would like to send out to them?

I love you guys and thanks for supporting me

The Metal Asylum Talks To………Mike Brügger, vocals of AKROASIS

Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band and a little bit about the various members?

Hello Metal Asylum! The band was founded in spring 2016 by Marcel Knupp and Gerhard Baeriswyl in Kerzers (Switzerland). Christof Schafer joined in the fall.
In 2017, Hänsù Zürrer joined the band as bass player. At the beginning of 2022, I was welcomed on vocals as a new band member.
“Akroasis” In Greek, this means both hearing and what is heard and can also be interpreted as the conscious perception of music.

Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?

Yes exactly, we are from the area around Freiburg, where the famous cheese fondue comes from. And for those who still know HP. Giger (movie Alien): Here is his museum in Gruyere Castle.
We got to know each other through other bands, concerts, and pub evenings over a beer. Typical in the metal scene. 🙂

Who are your favourite artists/bands and how have they influenced your own sound?

It is no secret that “Akroasis” was an album name from the band Obscura. Especially Marcel  loves technical death and techno thrash metal. We love bands like Amon Amarth, old Metallica, Testament, Dream Theater, Evergrey and many others. I am currently a fan of Dark Tranquillity / The Halo Effect.

Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band or did you originally have other plans?

Astronaut as a child. 🙂

I got into metal music when I was 14, back then I had more ambitions to make money with music. But as you know, it’s hard to make it as a band, especially in the metal scene. Now we are older, make music as a hobby and would be happy if we could play on a bigger stage or maybe do a tour.

What songs or albums are on your current playlist?

I open Spotify and up pops (us, of course)

Akroasis (Hubris), Falkenbach (Asa), Bolt Thrower (Those Once Loyal), Dimmu Borgir (Abrahadabra) and The Halo Effect (Become Surrender).

Do you sing in the shower?

Not yet in the shower, but I need my car as a place to practise my singing. Aaaand i’ve already been out in nature and practiced there.

Do you have any plans for the band for this year and into next year?

Like here, I write many more interviews. 🙂

The album release concert is in the past, a small band room concert is coming up and in September we will play at a festival. More concerts are planned for next year. Of course, the songwriting continues.

Do you currently have any new songs/albums ready to be released?

No, unfortunately not, we’re not ready yet. We have just started the process of writing new music.

If you could play at any venue in the world where would you choose?

I can only write about myself personally.

Latin America has a very large alternative scene. For example, I got completely lost in El Chopo Mart (Mexico City). And the enthusiasm is very high.

Do you have a favourite album? If so, what is it?

Many. Really.

Twilight of the Thunder God by Amon Amarth comes to mind first. Earlier: Slayer, Reign in Blood / or Metallica, Ride the Lightning. There are so many master albums.

Do you have any guilty pleasure songs/albums?

Right now I’m listening to Tenacious D with Belzeboss, what a sing-along song!

If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be playing?

Many no longer exist or are no longer active. Ok a mix.

Slayer, Pantera, Motorhead, Metallica, ACDC, Amon Amarth, Bolt Thrower und Rammstein.

Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What was it and do you still have it?

Yep, Cinderella with Long Winter Gold. I still have the CD.

As your fans will be reading this, is there any message you would like to send out to them?

Hahhaaa, Normally it should say here. Enjoy every day, it could be your last. Save the world and don’t wear fur. “What is certainly also important”

Ok, so very simple. Listen to your favorite music, meet up with colleagues/family after work and drink a cool blonde Beer. Cheeeerss
