Higgs Field – Us Forever

Higgs Field is an alternative rock / metal band from South Australia and Us Forever is their latest single, released on 24/02/2023.

Combining a multitude of genres from alternative rock to emo rock to skater rock, this is a nostalgic nod back to the music of the late 90’s, that is still highly regarded by many people.

The track starts off quite gentle, with some laid back drumming and subtle but after about a minute it really kicks off with all the instruments bursting into life at the same time.

The guitars on this track have a slight distortion that gives the track a fuzzy, grungy feel and this mixed with clean guitar solos makes for a great contrast. The drumming, although subtle and laid back to start with, is energetic and pounding and really brings life to the song.

There is a great change of pace part way through the track with everything slowing down for a short amount of time before everything crashes back in again.

The vocals on this track are fantastic, a certain quirkiness about them that really makes them stand out. The clean vocals mixed with the screaming towards the end of the track is awesome and actually quite unexpected, as there are no other hints throughout the rest of the track that screaming vocals were used.

This is a great track and from a band that I will certainly be keeping an eye, and an ear, out for in the future.

Great job!

Nerumia – Fatal Delirium

Nerumia is a melodic death metal band from Lausanne in Switzerland. They were formed in 2002 and released their debut album I Don’t Understand in 2007. They returned in 2021 with their new album Fatal Delirium which was released on 10th February.

An monster of an album, Fatal Delirium is ten tracks full of awesome death-metal goodiness (ok, I know the two don’t appear to go together but listen to this album and you will see what I mean!)

The band have had their fair share of tragedies from deaths to having to rebuild to taking a long hiatus and to come back with an album of this quality must have taken some grit and determination.

The band have a passion for music and this shows in this album, as it combines both old school death metal with some elements of the more modern death metal sound, to create something that is unique to them and also very technical and versatile.

With Pasquale Rivetti on lead and backing vocals and rhythm guitar and Magnus on backing vocals and bass, drums are provided by invited musicians, and this is obviously a formula that works for the band.

The album is very guitar-driven with heavy, pounding riffs that will vibrate through you to the very pit of your stomach. The guitars are fast when they need to be, giving the album a black metal vibe to it but chugging at other times. The drums are frenetic and full of energy and the bass lines are thumping. Clean guitar solos dot the album, reminiscent of Chuck Shuldiner of Death and the speed and pace of the tracks varies from each one to the next.

The vocals are typically death metal, deep and growling, almost inaudible at times, but also black metal influences creep in here too, making the lyrics really stand out from the music.

The guys have also created a very atmospheric album, the distortion on the guitars and the vocals adding effectively to this.

This album is a great combination of old school death metal, modern death metal and black metal with the hint of thrash and modern heavy metal thrown in too and this will make the album have a wide appeal.

This is a band that needs to be heard and I urge fans of all the genres previously mentioned to head on over to Spotify or Bandcamp and check these guys out. This could be a death metal classic in the making!

Jetty Grove – Static Motion

Jetty Grove is a singer, songwriter, and musician, based in Baltimore, Maryland, and was intrigued by music from a very early age. No stranger to the music scene in Baltimore, he has been releasing music on Spotify since 2021 and Static Motion is his latest album, released on 15/10/2022.

With twelve songs in total and a run time of about 46 minutes, Statis Motion is one of two albums that has been released by Jetty Grove and it is driven by a blend of folk and country music.

Not my first choice of music to go to, folk and country have always intrigued me and this album is a great combination of the two, with some soft rock and acoustic rock elements thrown in to the mix too.

The result is a unique sound with a simplicity that actually really does draw the listener in. The acoustic guitars, complete with country-sounding plucking, are a great add to the album, that keeps the sound straightforward without the complicatedness of too many electrics, although these do feature on the album too. The drumming is laid back and the basslines are subtle and a slight fuzziness and distortion appears at various points during the album, giving it a hint of grungeyness.

The element of this album that really stands out to me are the vocals. Soft and gentle yet deep and so full of emotion, Jetty really has put a lot of work and effort into making the vocals as powerful as he can without overdoing them. The subtleness of Jetty’s voice is all that is needed on this album as he still manages to keep control of each of the songs.

Describing his music as lo-fi indie rock, with a folk influence, his sound has a definite nostalgic nod back to the sounds of the 90’s and artists such as Beck and The Flaming Lips and with recurring lyrical themes of self-doubt, isolation, and mental health issues, his songs will really resonate with a lot of people.

This is a very laid back and easy to listen to album, designed to relax you while also making you think about the themes it is portraying.

So crack open a beer, lay on the sofa, close your eyes and let Jetty Grove and his music take you over because you will be powerless to stop it.

An absolute gem of an album that folk, country and alternative rock music fans will love. Head on over to Spotify and see for yourself!

Bad Ass Beauty – Me

LaQuinta Prince aka Bad Ass Beauty is an R&B vocalist who is now stretching her skills into the genre of rock (and doing an extremely good job of it too!) She was educated at the esteemed Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and cites her musical influences as spanning from Led Zeppelin to Chaka Khan, Beyonce to In This Moment.

Me is her latest single released today (24/02/2023) and is a great mix of pop, rock and soul, with just a hint of her R&B roots showing through.

The track is a full-on rock track, with great guitar riffs, funky basslines and energetic drums, just as any good rock track should have, but it is the vocals on this track that really stand out to me, as well as the lyrics. Empowering people to be the person they aspire to be, to look up to themselves as inspiration and to be the confident person they were always meant to be, this song, to me, has a very positive message and it portrays this in a very upbeat way.

Prince’s vocals, as mentioned, are so strong, powerful and full of attitude that you would think she had been singing rock songs her whole life! Musically the song is spot on with hooks and riffs that will get in your head and the lyrics, themselves, are extremely catchy and you will be singing the chorus over and over again in your head for hours to come.

This is an awesome rock track, that is full of boldness, assertiveness and, indeed, defiance and this is absolutely fantastic to see and hear! This is a woman with balls and her mission to turn rock music on its ear by mixing it with R&B and soul, is well on its way!

Incredible track that I could have listened to on repeat again and again!

Garland Kelley – The Point Of No Return

I have previously reviewed music by Garland Kelley and was eager to listen to more. But before we get into the review of The Point Of No Return, his latest single, released on 24/02/2023 (today!) let me refresh you as to who Garland Kelley is.

Garland Kelley is an artist and music producer who “combines a love of classic rock with a distinctly modern point of view to create his signature sound.” His music explores themes such as mortality, individualism, mental health, and philosophy and is a veteran of Nashville’s live music scene.

The Point Of No Return is an upbeat track but with a very important message, Climate Change and the fact that if we do not do something about it soon, we will be at the point of no return and the Earth will be damaged forever.

The track has a very distinctive alternative rock feel to it, with some epic guitar solos, and the sound on the whole is very reminiscent of 90’s rock.

Garland’s voice, once again, is very strong yet gentle as he delivers the songs message across to the listeners. He takes full command of the song with the vocals and although there are some awesome guitar riffs and funky basslines in the background, it is his voice that steals the limelight on this track. Despite this, I would love to hear his voice on a heavier rock track as I feel he could really do this type of track justice too!

Another great track from an incredibly talented musician. And lets him help spread the message of the song. After all, there is no greater medium for this than music!

Jade Moede – Enjoy The Ride

Jade Moede is a brilliant artist from New England who is a master of old school sounding music! Jade has recently dropped a new single, “Enjoy The Ride”, and it is definitely a great one!

“Enjoy The Ride” is an acoustic rock track, that is super catchy and super interesting! The beat will get you rocking along to it, and you will undoubtedly find yourself bopping your head to it too! The music is slightly different from my usual taste, however this is one that you cannot help but enjoy!

Jade’s vocals in this one are also fantastic! Not only do we have the main vocals, but we also have backing vocals to accompany him! The interesting part about the backing vocals, is that they have a slight distorted sound to them!

Ultimately, “Enjoy The Ride” is an upbeat, fun-filled track that you cannot miss!

Go and give Jade and his hit a little listen to! There is even a great music video to accompany the song that has been released on YouTube!

Alec Berlin – Beat Confabulator (All Night On The Floor)

Alec Berlin has been creating and performing music, ripping up the stages in New York for a good few years now! His music is not one that you want to breeze past, and he will just get you hooked instantly!

Today we are looking at a fresh track of Alec’s, “Beat Confabulator” which is the title track for his newest album!

The song kicks off hard, with some fantastic drumming and guitar playing. The beat is super catchy and will undeniably get you banging your head along to it!

The drumming in this track really keeps the song together, with the inclusion of some amazing drum fills! And even more so, the guitarist certainly shows his talents in this one!

With the track being five minutes long, we really get to experience its brilliantness! And I must say Alec has certainly chosen the perfect way to kick off his newest album!

Although there is not any actual vocals in this track, he still finds a way to keep you completely engrossed, never tiring of his sound!

Go and give Alec’s new track a listen to and you will undoubtedly love it!

Yannis Karalis – When I Breathe

Yannis Karalis is a composer/lyricist, from Athens, who creates his own amazing and unique music. Yannis ensures his songs are never boring and will definitely get you engrossed within them. He has previously composed instrumentals for different theatrical productions, wrote albums for other artists and is still creating his own music!

Yannis has brought out some new tracks recently, and the one we are looking at today is called “When I Breathe.” “When I Breathe” is a fantastic song, that includes two other artists, Demi Roussa and Donna, and was released just this year!

This track is undoubtedly beautiful with the inclusion of some lovely vocals and musical elements. “When I Breathe” is a piano-led, soft love song, which is just amazing to hear! The music starts off quite soft, however it does build up as the song continues, creating a more intense feeling of perhaps overwhelming love. The track even includes, I must say, a remarkable guitar solo which really gives the song some power.

The female vocals have done exceptionally well in this one, with an angelic tone to her voice! She presents her voice quite softly, however I must say it is perfect for this kind of love song!

Honestly, since hearing this song, I have not been able to get it out of my head. So hats off to Yannis and his team for creating “When I Breathe”

Betty Moon – My Only One

Betty Moon is a songwriter, music and film producer who lives and works in Los Angeles California where she operates Evolver Music Inc. Her music has been featured in a variety of television shows and films including Californication, Dexter, Bounty Hunters, Teen Mom, Walking the Dead, Last Gasp and the film Butter starring Mira Sorvino.

My Only One is an older song, released 16/04/2021 and was the first song from her tenth album Cosmicoma, which she produced herself and released on her own label.

My Only One is a diverse track, drawing on influences from a multitude of genres and pays homage to music from the late 90’s / early 2000’s.

The guitar work on the track is slightly distorted and this gives the song a grungey vibe while electronic beats and synths gives us a nostalgic nod back to the alternative scene of 90’s rock. The guitar keeps its melody all the way through the track and the solos that pop up are simply epic.

Betty’s vocals are amazing. Her voice is warm and inviting, pulling you in to the track while maintaining a strong stance with its strength and portrayal of the lyrics. Multi-layered backing vocals accompany her to great effect, giving the track an almost haunting feel. Betty’s voice also has a range that extends from low sultry tones, to the more high pitched ones and she totally commands the track, even the fuzziness of the guitars, although a prominent feature, not managing to overshadow her.

The track is a gritty rock track with some rock pop influences thrown in for good measure and I think will appeal to a wide-ranging audience.

A great track from a very talented lady who has already amassed a large following on social media and Spotify as well as standing out to hundreds of reputable media outlets.

I’m off to Spotify to hear some more, I suggest you all do too!

Black Stone Brewers – Too Far Gone

Black Stone Brewers are an alternative rock band, consisting of original members Blair, Jonathan and Rob who were later joined by Simon on bass and Luke on lead guitar, from Perth, Western Australia and Too Far Gone is their latest single, released on 07/02/2023.

Not sticking to one genre in particular, this band creatively combine a multitude of genres to create their sound.

The track is alternative rock in style, with heavy, searing riffs and great harmonies and melodies, but behind this is a hard rock base that everything is built on.

Atmospheric leads and a groove-laden rhythm section” are also very prominent features of this track and indeed the band’s music in general. The guitars are gritty and heavy when they need to be, with the guitar solos utterly phenomenal. The drumming is subtle at times yet more energetic and frantic at others and funky basslines shine through the fuzziness of the electric work.

The singer has a classic hard rock voice, with a slight gritty edge to it that really makes the song work. he is accompanied by strong backing vocals that really gives the strong depth and meaning.

Thrown in amongst all of this, are the electronic keyboards that really makes the song burst into life.

This is a great track from a band that should be heard by as many people as possible. I am looking forward to whatever else these guys produce as I am sure it will be just as astounding as this track.
