Robbie Rapids – Love Of Your Life

Robbie Rapids is a rock singer / guitarist, from Grand Rapids, Michigan but now based in Atlanta, Georgie and Love Of Your Life is his new single, released on 19/12/2022.

Very reminiscent of the 80’s this is a dancy little rock track that will certainly get you up and moving. I was definitely bopping about in my chair as I was writing this review.

Although the classic rock influence is very evident to hear, there is also a lot of electro-pop elements in the track too. Use of synths really take us on a nostalgic trip back to the 80’s while also maintaining a modern vibe.

Robbie’s vocals are typical of the 80’s, soft yet powerful and accompanied by harmonizing back up vocals. I can really hear him singing a more rocked up song just as easily as he sings this one, his voice really taking control of the track.

This is a very catchy song with big choruses. He is backed up by some very talented musicians and together they create a really big sound.

I have listened to this on repeat maybe half a dozen times so far and each play through gets better and better.

Great job!

Snakedoctors – Destroyed

Ooooh I liked this track from the opening notes but first let me tell you about the band!

Snakedoctors are four friends who started the band in Gdansk, Poland in May of 2020 and are a very prolific band, releasing twenty(!) singles (including a Christmas special and a song in Czech under name Jiri Blaha & Framuga Boys) and four albums, Obligation, Joy Free Bowl, Mellow Joy and Four And A Half. Band members include Wojciech Wypych (vocals, guitar, keyboards in some songs and also a little bit of drumming), Jaroslaw Szybowski (bass), Jacek Karnat (keyboard and vocals in a few songs) and Robert Porazka (drums).

Destroyed is their latest single and was released on 23/12/2022.

This track has a very grungey vibe to it, with distorted, dirty guitars, starting with a few riffs that reminded me very much of the 90’s before the track erupted into a frenzy of grungey loveliness! Yes, I am a big fan of grunge and its nice to see newer bands playing it! The guitar solo, however, is clean and well executed.

The vocals are totally awesome. Deep, gruff and with a rawness that really makes this track. There is also a quirkiness to them that really adds to the song. Back up vocals are kept to a minimum and this is of no detriment to the song as the singer handles all vocal duties with ease and really commands the track.

I love the bounciness of this song, its bombastic and the band have a really big sound.

I must admit I had never heard of Snakedoctors before reviewing this song, but I will definitely be checking them out some more.

Absolutely awesome track!

Foundry Town Survivors – Thanks For Coming

This is my third review of the day, the second by US band Foundry Town Survivors, and I must say they have all really set me up for the day ahead!

This one is more of an easy listening track, the kind that you can unwind to at the end of a long, hard day with a beer or two.

The guitar work on this is more bluesy than the last but also has a country / Americana twang to it too. Fantastic solos are dotted throughout the song and, once again, those funky basslines are prevalent. The drumming is fairly laid back, nothing too frantic, and the inclusion of the piano is a great touch, the polished sound creating a great contrast in the song.

Once again, the vocals are flawless, and the way the two compliment each other when singing the choruses is just awesome. Their voices work really well together and it is this harmonizing that really makes this band stand out.

This track is super catchy with choruses that you will be humming for the rest of the day, a real ear worm for you, and one that will also have you bopping around while you listen to it.

Another fantastic job by this super-talented duo. Keep them coming guys!

And if you haven’t checked Foundry Town Survivors out yet why not? Get over to Spotify and do it right now!

Foundry Town Survivors – American Dream

I have previously reviewed music by Foundry Town Survivors and was eager to see what else they had come up with.

So, just to recap, Foundry Town Survivors is two lifelong friends and veteran musicians, Mark Tomorsky and Tommy Johnsmiller, and the band name is a homage to their working-class backgrounds. And as I said before, these guys are not afraid to wear their classic rock influences staunchly on their sleeves.

This is an upbeat classic rock track that has strong nod backs to the 80’s era of rock and, as I said in my last review, comparable to bands such as Journey and Asia.

The song has a steady beat to it, kept up by the solid drumming and the guitar work is a pure rock n roll this time round. the track kicks off with a few solo bass notes and these funky bass lines are evident all the way through (who doesn’t love funky bass lines, eh?)

The vocals are gentle yet strong enough to take control of the song and have a slight edge to them. Harmonizing backup vocals are a great accompaniment and give the song depth.

Once again, I really liked this song, and I think fans of anything from classic rock to AOR to Indie rock will do too. I have another song to review next and I am really hoping that one will be just as good as this!

Great track!

Spünday – While My Guitar Gently Beeps

Spünday are a Welsh band and While My Guitar Gently Beeps is their latest single, released on  12/01/2023. The song title is an adaption of The Beatles hit While My Guitar Gently Weeps (a personal favourite of mine!) but please do not be mislead into thinking this band are anything like The Beatles…because they are not!

Spünday are a post-punk, alternative rock band who mix in a little bit of psychedelia and noise rock to create a sound quite like anything I have heard before.

Based on a punk sound, the guitars are heavy and in your face and the drumming is as frantic as any punk band should be! The music is raw but at the same time has a clean sound in places, especially during the spoken word part at the end of the track.

The track kicks of with a funky bass line before the whole thing erupts into a mass of punk goodiness, and these basslines continue throughout the track.

The vocals are distorted in places adding to the edginess of the song, and the singer switches between singing and spoken word with ease. There is a brief interlude half way through with the inclusion of a recording of an online auction before the track kicks back in again, with seemingly more ferociousness than before.

This track was a great way to start work on a grey, miserable day, and really did lift me up so I was bouncing in my chair as I was writing.

If punk / alternative rock is your thing, then please go and check out this band. I am sure you will not be disappointed!

TruckerBomb – Next Last Drink

TruckerBomb, a collective, from Los Angeles was created by singer-songwriter and bassist Troy Richardson and Next Last Drink is one of three singles the band put out last year, released on 13/05/2022.

Combining elements of country, Americana and alternative rock, this band have come up with a sound all of their own, and the track is all about needing that one last drink for a bit of liquid courage.

Troy sings and plays bass on the track and is joined by Ursula Lari, originally from Peru on rhythm guitar and additional vocals, Alrick Bills on the drums and LA native Salty Rose, who brings his rock, blues, and country styles, on guitar.

Troy’s vocals are almost grunge-esque in style, that hint of grittiness meaning this could appeal to grunge fans as well as rock and country fans alike, although there is still a hint of a country twang in there too.

The guitar work is a mix of classic and blues and the song has heavy riffs that could almost place it in the heavy rock genre too. This is a track that doesn’t fit neatly into one style of music and that is when I absolutely adore music. To be able to straddle more than one genre and blur the lines between them is a great thing to be able to do and these guys do it with ease.

The track has a steady pace with a very catchy chorus that you will be humming for the rest of the day!

This is a really good song, and I am going to head on over to Spotify to see what else from these guys I can find. I suggest you do the same!

I Panic – (Welcome To The Night Of) Broken Promises

I have already reviewed two of I Panic’s songs and I must say I was excited to see what this one was all about.

Just to recap, I Panic is Dutch singer and multi-instrumentalist, Marcel van Tetering, and was the name of a band he set up with two friends way back in 1987, although now he uses the name as a solo project.

This track has a rockier feel to it than the previous two and has to be my favourite of the three.

Marcel’s voice is perfect for the classic rock element of the track but a hint of new wave also creeps in there too. There is also a touch of quirkiness that I had maybe not noticed before but this is definitely a positive, especially for this track.

The use of piano is once again prominent throughout the whole track and the electric guitars and pounding drums show just how rocky this guy can be! Electric bites and sounds throughout the track give it an 80’s vibe, and synths are used more on this track than the previous two.

Once again, this track has a big sound, and one that really makes you want to get up and move! I was certainly bopping in my chair whilst writing this review!

With every song, I Panic is proving himself to be more and more accomplished and talented and I really can’t praise him enough!

Another fantastic track!

The Margaret Hooligans – Doggie Pizza Crust

The Margaret Hooligans are Meg Cratty (electric ukelele and lead vocals) and Mr Strontium (drums, back up vocals….and teapot!) and come from Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania. They are a couple who have “a child, a cat, three dogs, and four ducks.  They record in their basement and try not to fight on Saturday nights.”

They cite their influences as The Who, New Orleans, James Brown, Miles Davis, Soul Train, The White Stripes, Grateful Dead (’68-’72), and Fiona Apple but they actually create a sound that is unique to them, the sound they make their own.

Doggie Pizza Crust is their latest single, was released on 06/01/2023 and asks then age-old question of “if it’s okay to fight a dog for the last pizza crust if you’re starving?”

The track combines alternative rock with punk rock and has edgy female vocals, with slightly eccentric male backups.

The guitar riffs are very punk-influenced and the drumming is somewhat energetic at times. The sound is very raw and this is very much a positive, as this gives the track an edge to it.

The lyrics are quite humorous but delivered in a serious way, until the very last line! (you will have to go and listen to the track as I am giving nothing away here!) Life is too short to be serious all the time anyway!

I liked this song and, if you take it in a light-hearted way, I think a lot of other people will too!

Square – The World Is Square EP

Square is a modern avant-rock band based in Vancouver and began in 2017, after three well-established composers in the Canadian contemporary music scene, James Maxwell, Edward Top, and Alfredo Santa Ana all got together to form an output for their creative efforts. Indie-music scene legend Nathan Dillon has also been added to the line-up.

The three-track EP kicks off with The World Is Square, a funky, off beat track that has hints of psychedelia as well as indie rock, alternative rock and classic rock. The basslines are groovy and are a prominent feature throughout the whole EP.

The vocals are quirky, the singers voice is edgy and reminds me very much of bands such as The Smiths from the 80’s. He switches easily from singing to talking through the lyrics and this is one of the features that gives this band their individual sound.

The music is very progressive, with subtle time and pace changes throughout the EP and not only does each track vary in this regard but so does each track separately. This progressiveness of the EP is what makes it stand out from other EP’s and also gives it the avant-rock feel too.

The result of all of the above is a very experimental recording that is edgy, eclectic and maybe even somewhat eccentric. This may not appeal to everyone and could be classed rather as a niche market but there will be listeners out there who will absolutely love this EP.

So if progressive and psychedelic music is your thing, please go and check this EP out as I wait with baited breath for their next release!

Christopher Labi Rance – That Rocking Thing

Christopher Labi Rance, who has been putting out music since 2020, is Sweden based hard rock musician, and has just released his new single and music video for, That Rocking Thing, featuring Miriam De Silva.

That Rocking Thing is a rock n roll track from start to finish and one that will definitely get you bouncing round.

Christophers vocals are gritty and powerful, the classic rock style but a hint of grunginess about them and Miriam is a strong accompaniment to him.

Musically, the track is energetic and dynamic and the distortion on the guitars give the track a 90’s feel while still keeping it fresh and modern. The drums are hard-hitting and all this combined really makes this track stand out.

With influences from Queen, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, this track is bound to appeal to a huge range of people. Combining classic rock, glam rock and AOR, there is a definite hint of the 80’s (as well as the 90’s) shining through.

There is a very positive and upbeat vibe about the track, its always a good day for rock n roll and its hard not to smile while listening to this song. Definitely a track that will cheer you up if you are feeling down.

I want to hear more from these guys! Awesome track, well done!
