Watch the video

Phranick and Naginah of SOMBRE ARCANE perform a macabre ritual to summon the mists of Barovia as a means of conveyance to Castle Ravenloft.

This song is inspired by a playthrough of the Ravenloft Dungeons & Dragons module that the band played through during a campaign they have been playing together for about 8 years.

SOMBRE ARCANE hails from Massachusetts, and released their self-titled demo in August of 2018. One of the earliest American proponents of live dungeon synth, SOMBRE ARCANE has offered a number of rituals to the public, incorporating video, costume, and elaborate staging to make the audience feel like they are peering into the window of an alchemist’s workshop.

What others have said about SOMBRE ARCANE:”Crafting their sound with synths and strings, SOMBRE ARCANE offers a well crafted journey through the dungeons, infusing their music with folk, fantasy ambient and balladry for a thoroughly immersive experience.“ – Adam Matlock of ‘Nahadoth’

“SOMBRE ARCANE are a dungeon synth duo who are trailblazing new paths in the genre. Hailed as one of the best live DS acts on the planet, the wizard Phranick and the bard Naginah put on a spectacular show filled with magic. Incorporating live medieval instruments into bombastic orchestral arrangements, their sound is immediately recognizable and unforgettable! “ – Jason Shook of ‘Guild of Lore’

“High in presentation and composition, this release is in the centre of a Venn diagram with dungeon synth on the left and a neo-folk ambient on the right.” – CorkonianHunger

“SOMBRE ARCANE is one of the most promising dungeon synth acts out there, and they’re not afraid to step outside the boundaries” -_NS_

MOONSPELL Shares Upcoming Album Details and Brand New Video!

Full Image

“We are nothing, therefore we are everything…”

MOONSPELL is approaching their 30th anniversary as a band more ambitiously and stronger than ever, as the Portuguese dark metal pioneers have finally revealed the hotly anticipated details for their upcoming, 13th studio album! Hermitage will be released on February 26th 2021 via Napalm Records.

While the world is struggling in the dark, MOONSPELL‘s forthcoming album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Paradise Lost, Primordial, Ghost, Sólstafir & many more) at the Orgone Studios in the UK.

Building upon the sensitive facets of Hermitage, one can expect an entertaining and revolutionary, yet epic journey through the darkest days of human existence. Beautifully crafted songs such as “The Greater Good“ show us the modernity of the wolves in 2021, while other tracks embrace the MOONSPELL tradition of writing a dark, gothic metal record like no other band can. The ethereal and melodic sounds of MOONSPELL, while not straying away from their metal roots — influenced by underground metal bands such as Bathory — make Hermitage most likely one of the deepest, surprising and most epic albums MOONSPELL has ever written.

Today, the band is sharing the first song taken from Hermitage, the album opening track “The Greater Good”. Lead singer Fernando Ribeiro reveals:

“The Greater Good is a sociological concept implying the benefit of the public, of more people than oneself. To do which is better and more correct. Unfortunately, a lot of wrong- doing and pure evil actions were taken on behalf of this principle both by world leaders, and citizens. With a “screenplay” designed by myself, and put together by director Guilherme Henriques (Gaerea, Crippled Black Phoenix, Schammasch) The Greater Good strikes at the deep contrast of our priorities as human beings. The plot evidenciate the daily clash between the problems we could never or never wanted to solve; and our “first world preoccupations”. The cult of the body versus the African famine; the killing of the innocent versus the second amendment; the beauty of monuments against the ugliness of violence.

We are all responsible for the things we see here. For the greater good, for the greatest evil. It‘s not a question of race, gender, class or education. It‘s a question of conscience. It‘s vital we renew our communities‘ ties, our humanly behavior. Only we can save us from ourselves.”

Like this first appetizer showcases, with Hermitage MOONSPELL created a wonderfully intuitive and epic journey, but also a testament to what they‘ve always loved the most: Honest, emotional metal that binds us even in the darkest times.

As Fernando tells us more about the upcoming MOONSPELL album:

“We know that we are entering the final years of our career as musicians: the winter of our lifetime.  We don‘t care about people saying we‘re still young at heart, or “leading” wolves in a pack. We are not! But we do care about how those around us feel about us, and this album is all about how we feel, our answers to your questions.

Under these circumstances, we feel our musical stakes are higher than ever. For us, it‘s not about likes or algorithms, reach, or opportunity of growth. We only care about the music. Music does come first on this album you will hold in your hands soon enough.” He continues: “The record is about turning our backs to the conventions of modernity. We are currently convincing ourselves that it‘s all about us, that we (humanity) are everything. That the world revolves around us. However, ipsi facto, we are nothing and nothing revolves around us. Moonspell‘s goal, on these last turns around the Sun, are to write the best music we possibly can. To tell you a few stories with our lyrics, to be close to you in these times of distancing. We wish not to tease you or to influence you or to sell you our fish. We want to sit down with you at your table and feast together upon our notes and words. Like if we were close friends, like back in the time where music matters the most. In your bedroom listening to music, without having to post our smart remarks about it, inviting the hate in.

Hermitage is an open-hearted invitation to simplicity. To be humble. To be thankful. To serve you solace. Provide you comfort, entertainment. We sincerely hope this call reaches you. That you kindly accept what we offer. That you take our music with you to the place you must feel as yours. To your secret place, to your hermitage. Blessed be.“

Progressive Power Metal Red Cain Announce 2021 Release Date For New Album “Kindred: Act II”

Canada’s Red Cain is finishing their “Kindred” saga with the release of “Kindred: Act II”. The album was originally slated to be unleashed on December 4th, 2020, but due to interruptions caused by this year’s main culprit, Covid, the band has decided to push back their second studio album’s digital sales date to January 22, 2021, along with announcing the CD physical release will be done by Sliptrick Records at a later date in the new year.

The band comments:

“We are very excited to partner with Sliptrick Records yet again for the physical release of our next album, with this partnership helping us to sell over 1000 copies of “Kindred: Act I” in Europe over the past 6 months. To make sure we coordinate properly and deliver to all our fans worldwide, we are delaying the official album release to Jan 2021. But fear not, Varyags – because we will fill the gap with a monster single that we are particularly proud of, to thank you all for your patience.”

“Kindred: Act II” follows Red Cain‘s 2019 album “Kindred: Act I” also unleashed via Sliptrick Records. Over the past few months of this year, they have shared four singles off the forthcoming full-length “Sunshine (Blood Sun Empire)”, “Demons”, “Kindred” and “Varyag and The Shrike”, which can be heard below. Recommended for fans of Kamelot, Mastodon, and Amaranthe.

Described as a vehicle of “Melancholy and Rage” and born out of the emerging music scene of Alberta, Canada, 2017 YYC Awards Metal Recording of the Year winner Red Cain is a power/progressive metal project with Russian roots. With intricate songwriting, a heavy yet melodic feel reminiscent of progressive acts, and elements of Slavic myth and Russian paganism in the storytelling tradition of the cult of Veles, Red Cain champion a fluid, dynamic, and unique musical style centered around telling dark, conceptual Faustian sagas and constructing those into an unforgettable live experience.

Stated by frontman Evgeniy Zayarny as wanting to bring back the “Devil’s music” mysticism all too often missing in modern metal acts, Red Cain delivers flair, groove, and an intricate, lethal edge in their music. Listeners might well pick out elements reminiscent of such luminary acts as Kamelot, Symphony X, Tesseract, Amaranthe, Alter Bridge – whipped into a venomous new shape. The current incarnation of the band is all of these influences mixed with a lot of vodka and Eastern European melancholy, shaken and stirred.

Red Cain released its debut self-titled EP in November 2016 to rave reviews from a variety of publications such as Dead Rhetoric, MetalUnderground, and Firewind magazine, among many others. Red Cain’s EP had the honour of winning Metal Recording of the Year at the 2017 YYC Music Awards. The band has a strong emerging fanbase around the world, being named one of the top 200 bands of 2016 by Headbangers Latinoamerica and the EP’s cover art selected as one of 2016’s 15 best by Metal Underground.

Red Cain’s first full-length album “Kindred: Act I” was released in March 2019 to a variety of excellent reviews internationally, reaching #1 on Canadian College Radio Earshot Loud charts and establishing the band as a force in the Canadian metal scene, and landing the band a distribution deal with European label Sliptrick Records. A variety of festival appearances at Loud As Hell Metal Festival, Hyperspace Metal Festival, and Canada Wacken Competition have served to cement that status. Red Cain’s music videos for “Juliet” and “Zero” have to date garnered 11 international film festival awards, including the Music Video Award at the Accolade Global Film Competition (LA).
