Meursault Omega – Cold Thirst

FFO: Celtic Frost, Rammstein, Sonic Youth

Meursault Omega is a project devised by Cliff Scott, audio engineer, songwriter, musician, and producer, working in Milano (Italy).
After a first full-length (Meursault, 2020), generally well received – read Metal Temple review HERE ! Cliff worked hard on this second release focusing on some aspects of capital death. Being a producer and a composer, he created the music and the lyrics himself, but at the same time decided to involve many interesting artists of the Italian metal scene on the way to have different colors in the various songs, especially in the vocals. He involved Chiara Manese, an awesome mezzosoprano and classical crossover artist (Blut, Chakra), Francesca Tosi a powerful young singer (Mediera, MadHour), Asator Ægishjálmur, an amazing singer working mainly in black metal projects (Madvice, Daysidied), Simona Guerrini, vocalist of death metal band Gravestone, Lunaria Wistful (Mooniric), Carlo Fiore, keyboards and synth player of the progressive rock band Macchina Pneumatica and Matteo Venrgoni, acclaimed mastermind of the progressive metal Detevilus Project. Unfortunately, Matteo died just some weeks after the recording of his solo in To the Core.

The artwork of Cold Thirst was realized by Frost Bite, an Indonesian illustrator.

The album was released by Cliff Scott’s label Heaven Full of Astronauts on March, 28 – 2021.

CVLT OF THE SVN Unleashes “Hellbound” Video From Upcoming Album!

We Are The Dragon out May 7, 2021 via Napalm Records

Watch the New Lyric Video For Hellbound HERE:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzJZ19pfZZY

As it often seems modern rock music has lost its sense of palpable danger and mystique, Finnish dark occult rock act CVLT OV THE SVN marks its return in full force with their grim, addictive first full length, We Are The Dragon. Slated for release on May 7, 2021 via Napalm Records, CVLT OV THE SVN‘s debut embodies a reverberating sense of eeriness, danger and fear, enriched with a pinch of gothic romanticism and pitch-black seduction. Finally, there‘s a cvlt worth joining: CVLT OV THE SVN‘s sound feels dangerously unsettling, lacing its churning heaviness with catchy melodies that travel right through your ears to your central nervous system!

With the unveiling of previously-released goth-boppers like “Twilight”, “The Pit”, “Whore Of Babylon”, “Luna In The Sky Forever” and just recently, “My Venom”, CVLT OV THE SVN have already proven how to successfully merge seething heaviness and sweet pop melodies. Now, the mysterious visionary behind the cvlt, who actually started out as a black metal drummer, has unleashed a brand new lyric video for the heavy dark rock anthem “Hellbound”, ultimately setting free his casket full of morbid horror theatrics! This occult new wave and rock n‘ roll symbiosis draws you right in – like an invitation through the gates of hell to party with the devil himself!

“Everyone of us faces periods in life, when all seems to be lost.“ Says the anonymous band visionary about the new single “ My response to those kind of situations is to put the pedal to the floor and dive deep into the dark corners of my psyche.”

Inspired by movies like The Exorcist and the all devouring darkness itself, CVLT OV THE SVN draws inspiration not only from the heavy rock genre and greats like Type O Negative and Turbonegro, but the nostalgic influences of mainstream artists like Roxette as well.
Conceptually conveying a variety of extreme emotions, each of the album‘s twelve enthralling tracks cut through the noise of society like a razorblade, leaving a long-lasting impression on the listener that‘ll have them clamoring for more.

In addition to the macabre thrills of their music, there‘s the character he takes on stage, twisting the dagger of perception even further like your favorite horror flick and making for a combined experience that cuts deep and close to the bone.

“It‘s easier to tell those grim stories through another identity, another character.” The creative cvlt leader recently said. “Black cloaks just go with it, obviously. I‘m a big fan of suspense and this kind of content is all about the surprises. I find it is an intriguing realm to explore. Whatever lies ahead, CVLT OV THE SVN will adapt and thrive.”

New Video: Skyliner – I Walk Alone

For fans of: Devin Townsend , Royal Hunt , and Eternal Champion

Hailing from Jacksonville, Florida , SKYLINER is a wave of discontent and a voyage to freedom, with a progressive mind’s eye at the center of the storm. Lyrically esoteric, insightful, or emotionally shipwrecked, a tide of vocal wails and roars collides with pure toned, high-volume guitars, bass, and drums, an alchemical marriage recalling the classic era of heavy and power metal while adding new stones onto that eternal foundation.
“ Dark Rivers, White Thunder ” also sees the band exploring some more earthy, tribal themes and underpinnings, both lyrically and musically, helping to define the feel and atmosphere of the record.

Fans of Devin Townsend , Royal Hunt , and Eternal Champion are going to love Skyliner ! Their new album, Dark Rivers, White Thunder, has progressive musicianship mixed with elements of traditional heavy metal. Skyliner has several ranges of vocal styles, starting with epic Iron Maiden -esque wailing, screaming that is reminiscent of Judas Priest , and sinister growls that will make any death metal head happy. All of that is tied together with a thunderous rhythm section that will have you fist pumping the sky in no time! – Zach Moonshine

Trevor and the Wolves – Road to Nowhere

Trevor And The Wolves Road To Nowhere Album Cover Art

Finding background on the band Trevor and the Wolves is not easy. There seems to be precious little information on the world wide web and the small bit that can be found, is mostly written in Italian!

Trevor and The Wolves is the side project of death metal band Sadist’s vocalist, Trevor Sadist, and this album couldn’t be more different if it tried.

Featuring a number of special guests including Christian Meyer (Elio E Le Storie Tese), Stefano Cabrera (Gnu Quartet), Paolo Bonfanti, Grazia Quaranta, Francesco Chinchella and Daniele Barbarossa (Winterage), the new album Road to Nowhere was recorded at the Italian Nadir Music Studios in Genoa, under the expert supervision of Tommy Talamanca as producer.

With obvious influences from the hard rock end of the rock and metal spectrum, this is a good old-fashioned rock and roll album. Its simplistic in style but that in no way takes away from the appeal of the music.

Think the Brian Johnson era of AC/DC, mix it with a bit of Motörhead and Saxon, and you are somewhere close to what this band sound like. I am not a HUGE fan of any of the just mentioned bands, but I do like this album. The rough vocals of Trevor are ideally suited to this type of rock, there are riffs galore and at just under fifty minutes in length, there is plenty to get your listening gear round.

The guitar solos are simple yet expertly executed and you can just imagine the drummer and bass player bouncing around the stage keeping everyone in time. I personally love to see musicians making music other than what they are known for and, having listened to a bit of Sadist just for comparison purposes, this is nothing like what Trevor is known for.

With enough grit and gravel to line all the roads in England during a particularly cold snap of weather, I think this is a must for any hard rock fan’s collection. Slightly heavier than AC/DC, it still has the party feel about it and will certainly have you bounding round your living room strutting your stuff on your air guitar!

TOXIKULL – THE NIGHTRAISER EP

The Nightraiser EP Cover

Anyone who knows me, knows that of all the metal genres that exist, the one I love the most is thrash, so when a thrash album landed in my inbox to review, I was all too excited to get it reviewed.

The offering was from Portuguese “fearless, taunting, leather-jacket wearing and maniacal” quintet, Toxikull, and they certainly play their metal HEAVY and FAST!

Formed in Cascais, Portugal, in 2016, the band is fronted by brothers Lex Thunder and Michael Blade and they are one of the most promising European underground bands when it comes to heavy/speed/thrash, displaying all the qualities of the genre; impressive vocals, a tight rhythm section, blazing guitar solos and carefully crafted melodies.

The band issued a full-length album “Black Sheep” in 2016 and this EP is their second release, and what an EP it is! At first listen, if I am honest, I didn’t really like it, but I persevered with it, giving it a few more go’s, and I am so glad I did, otherwise I would have missed a gem of an EP.

Say frontman Lex of the EP; “It’s an appeal to rebellion and some social criticism. Music wise this EP is a bit different from Black Sheep, it’s faster, stronger and more aggressive. The influences of the music from the past are also a bit different, this one’s more on the speed/heavy metal side.”

In truth, it is a “relentless, sonic attack” that just doesn’t give up from start to finish and combines some of the best elements that made heavy, speed and thrash metal so popular. Despite only coming into existence in 2016, these guys have a sound like they are straight from the mid 80’s, taking you on a journey back to the time of bands such as Exciter, Agent Steel and Razor.

The EP is just over twenty-five minutes long and, along with five original recordings, it features a cover of rock and roll royalty Axl Rose’s early band Hollywood Rose’s song “Rocker.” Says Lex; “I always thought it was a killer tune, living off the spirit of rock and roll. Unfortunately, this brilliant song never got a proper recording, so we took the chance and did it ourselves, and recorded it the way we wanted it to sound.”

The cover work is painted by Italian artist Velio Josto and the art meets the bands idea of “something pure, actually painted in ink and without any digital effects.”

All in all, this is a fantastic EP, and although I haven’t actually listened to the first album, I will make it my job to do just that. The vocals are out of this world, the guy hits every note and scream without any trouble, and the guitar solos are awesome. The rhythm section is tight and concise, and the production is great. It’s a little bit longer than what I would consider an EP but, due to the intensity and energy that comes from it, I think its actually the perfect length.

So, if you fancy a trip back to the 80’s, put on your leather jacket and go and get yourself a copy of this EP. You’ll be transported back in no time!!
