AVELION: Italian prog metal act unveils new single “Lost Within Daydream”

“Lost Within Daydream”, the new single by Italian prog metal act AVELION, delves into this dreamlike and emotional limbo—those moments when reality seems to unravel, leaving no choice but to face one’s fears and embrace transformation.

The band shares:

“We wanted to create a song that holds a spark of positivity, a constant push toward change, a message that keeps burning inside those who listen.
This song is for those who fight every day against their own limits—because even in the darkest moments, there is an energy capable of turning every fall into newfound strength””.

“Lost Within Daydream” was mixed by Simone Mularoni, with mastering by Luca Bottoli.

Line-up:

Riccardo Rizzardelli – Vocals
Oreste Giacomini – Keyboards
Leonardo Freggi- Guitars
Danilo Arisi – Bass
Alessandro Ponzi – Drums

AVELION have developed a gloriously turbulent sound that is uniquely their own. Hailing from Parma, Italy, the band have been tearing venues apart across Europe with their powerful fusion of genres since 2008.
In 2011 AVELION released the first studio work: the EP “Cold Embrace”. The following year the band started an intense live activity, leading to the great opportunity to play as opening act for Seventh Wonder (with Tommy Karevik, Kamelot).
In 2012 the band released the promotional single “Falling Down” which sees the collaboration with guitarist Olaf Thorsen (Labyrinth, Vision Divine)
AVELION‘s second EP, “Liquid Breathing”, was published in 2013. The EP delivers a more personal, modern and mature sound: melodic progressive metal mixed with djent influences, all combined with a strong electronic flavour.
In 2015 the band entered Simone Mularoni’s Domination Studio (DGM) to record their first full length album: “Illusion of Transparency”, which was released via Revalve Records in 2017.
In March 2018 AVELION supported the legendary ANGRA in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Spain and Portugal. The dates also featured Geoff Tate’s Operation: Mindcrime as special guest.
In May 2018 the band released the single “Echoes and Fragments” REMIX featuring the Electro Metal artist The Algorithm.
Following a widespread approval from both critics and fans, the band kept playing live opening for Primal Fear, Lacuna Coil and Kiko Loureiro.
At the end of 2019 the band parted ways with the frontman William Verderi. Following the split, AVELION started composing new songs for their next musical chapters along with new vocalist Riccardo Rizzardelli. The first single from the revitalised line-up, “Bound to Blackness”, was released in June 2022, followed by the highly acclaimed “Alone in Time” single (2023) and by “Firestone” (2024).

Metal Planet Media Talks To…PYTHONIC

Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band and a little bit about the various members?

Our band name came from our original drummer AJ Rettger. Not sure exactly where he came up with it, but it was selected from a list of potential band names. We wanted to go with Pythonic for its ancient meaning of being oracle-like. This band came together in a very organic way with each member finding their way through mutual friends and bandmates. All members keep a rather chill vibe and stand strong for each other. We are like the 5 musketeers!

Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?

All members and previous members of Pythonic are from the Saskatoon area. The band started back in 2016, singer Dustin answered a kijiji advertisement to guitar player Vincent who was seeking others to form a new metal band based in Saskatoon. We spent only a few months trying out other guitar players before we met Ryan who joined the band to be a perfect fit for lead guitars. On bass, we were joined by Alyxx Frayne who was a long time friend of Ryans’. Alyxx played with Pythonic for a number of years before moving to the big city, but played a huge role in us finding our sound. The band started with drummer AJ Rettger who played with us for a couple years, and later we had back to help engineer drums on this EP. After we let AJ go we spent many years searching for the right drummer, but did find this to be our greatest challenge. A few drummers stayed with us for a good amount of time and also played a huge role in making Pythonic what it is today. Honourable mentions to Carter, Tristan “The Destroyer” Mathiason and Jordan Gall! Jordan Gall was also a huge part of the EP being the recorded drummer and using his studio Powder Room Studios to record them. Fast forward to 2022, singer Dustin is holding down the bass and vocals, we are still writing new songs, but here we are in need of a drummer yet again. Out of nowhere, Ryan suggests we reach out to an old school mate named Jayden Warriner who has been drumming for many years and was actually interested in joining Pythonic before. The stars aligned and before we knew it, Jayden had joined in and learned all our songs quickly while adding his own flare to each track. As a bonus cherry on top, Jayden brought in his brother Morgan Warriner to take over on bass. Morgan also brings many years of experience in playing metal to the band and allowed for singer Dustin to focus on vocals and hone into the Pythonic sound that we have now spent 8 years perfecting.

Who are your favourite artists/bands and how have they influenced your own sound?

In Flames, Devildriver, Cannibal Corpse, Alice in Chains, Black Dahlia Murder, Rise Against, Morbid Angel, Wu Tang. Each member of Pythonic brings a unique and diverse influence to our sound. We have never tried to write in a specific way. Instead, we flow naturally with our approach and allow the music to come out with an instinctive and primitive feel. With our diverse blend of influences, we have been able to hone in on a sound unlike anything we have ever heard.

Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band or did you originally have other plans?

Nope, each member of Pythonic has been a musician since they were young. It’s in our blood.

What songs or albums are on your current playlist?

ODB – Return to the 36 Chambers,

Do you sing in the shower?

Absolutely.

Do you have any plans for the band for this year and into next year?

Keep playing as many shows as possible including small tours, record our new songs, continue to write more new songs, launch a website, and create more deadly merch.

Do you currently have any new songs/albums ready to be released?

So many new songs to record. We have our work cut out for us.

If you could play at any venue in the world, where would you choose?

Blondies Lounge, Detroit.

Do you have a favourite album? If so, what is it?

Devildriver – S/T.

Do you have any guilty pleasure songs/albums?

Alannah Myles 1989 – Black Velvet

If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be playing?

Local Saskatoon bands 😉

Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What was it and do you still have it?

Yes, Kris Kross – Totally Krossed Out and I do have the CD somewhere.

As your fans will be reading this, is there any message you would like to send out to them?

Don’t stop believing!

Symphonic Blackened Death Metal Discovery RawMoor Signs With Wormholedeath

Prepare for a cataclysmic fusion of symphonic grandeur and unrelenting darkness as RawMoor, the rising titans of symphonic blackened death metal, announce their signing with Wormholedeath Records and the global release of their debut album, En Route, set to storm the gates on May 2, 2025.
“We are pleased to announce the signing of our pact with Wormholedeath, to now have their force backing our descent upon the world!” said the band” We brewed and smoldered in silence long under the black stone that roofs every hollow hosting aspiring combatants, battling for the honor of carrying the torch for Satan, with our flame nigh quenching in the process, until our menace could no longer be contained. We drew the admiration of our audience and they whipped us on until finally, we burst open through that stone, our release now on display for all to see. That much can be accomplished by anyone. But Carlo and Wormholedeath soon got on our trail, offering us a backing that now elevates our possibilities to compete for a place among the greatest of names in Black Metal. They pave our way, map us our roads, and guide us to growth in darkness. Our vow from here on out is to deliver our power in full, to burn as the brightest of flame until our fuel runs out and another takes our place. This will be our unending service. For Satan.”
“En Route” delves into themes of treachery and betrayal, both on national and personal scales, alongside aspirations for sovereignty and critiques of left-wing ideology. Unapologetically political, it stands as an anti-religion, pro-freedom statement.Musically, it embraces the essence of Symphonic Black Metal drawing inspiration from Dimmu Borgir, Agathodaimon, Windir, Cradle of Filth, and Finntroll. The result is a dark, cinematic soundscape that balances grandeur with aggression.Lyrically, the album is born from Moordrawn’s deep frustration and disillusionment with a world spiraling into decay.
A New Era of Elegance and Ferocity
Emerging from the shadows of the metal underground, RawMoor has forged a reputation for blending haunting orchestral melodies with blistering death metal savagery. Their debut album, En Route—initially self-released in September 2024—captivated fans and critics alike, earning acclaim for its seamless marriage of brutality and sophistication. Now, armed with the backing of Wormholedeath, RawMoor is poised to ascend to new heights, bringing their apocalyptic soundscapes to a global audience.

From Underground Vision to International Stage
What began in 2016 as the solo endeavor of multi-instrumentalist Moordrawn (vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, orchestration) evolved into a formidable alliance with longtime collaborator Brim (vocals). Together, they finished En Route, a concept album steeped in treachery, sovereignty, and existential rebellion themes. Guest guitarist Renton (tracks 2, 3, 6) adds searing solos, further cementing the album’s dynamic range.RawMoor embodies the raw intensity and artistic ambition that defines extreme metal,” says Carlo Bellotti, CEO of Wormholedeath. “En Route is not just an album—it’s a manifesto. We’re thrilled to amplify their vision and introduce their chaos to the world.”

En Route is a journey through betrayal and retribution, and with Wormholedeath, RawMoor is ready to ignite the flames wider than ever.

Rockshots Records – Out Now! Symphonic Folk Metal VALLORCH’s New Album “The Circle”

The wait is over! Vallorch returns on March 14, 2025, with their highly anticipated album, “The Circle,” which is the band’s most ambitious and immersive work to date. Building upon their folk and symphonic metal roots, the band refines its signature sound into a dynamic fusion of powerful riffs, enchanted melodies, and cinematic orchestration.

Following the release of the anthemic “Circle Of The Moon” and the raucous folk metal celebration “Drink Some More!”“The Circle” delivers an even broader spectrum of emotions and soundscapes. The album revolves around the theme of the night, capturing its dual nature—a time for reflection and solitude but also revelry and connection. From grandiose symphonic arrangements to festive folk elements, each track immerses the listener in a journey through legends, emotions, and the band’s signature sonic landscapes.

Compared to their previous works, “Neverfade” (2013) and “Until Our Tale Is Told” (2017), Vallorch has evolved their songwriting, crafting an album that is tightly composed and emotionally resonant. The folk influences remain, but with an even more polished and cinematic touch, elevating their sound to new heights.

Fans of Nightwish, Eluveitie, Alestorm, Epica, and Wind Rose will find themselves drawn into Vallorch’s world, where folk traditions and symphonic metal collide in an unforgettable experience. With myth-inspired lyrics, powerful storytelling, and an undeniable passion for their craft, Vallorch cements their place as one of the most exciting acts in modern folk metal.

March 14 marks a new era for Vallorch. “The Circle” isn’t just an album—it’s an invitation to journey through the night, to embrace the contrasts of light and dark, and to lose yourself in the magic of Vallorch’s sound.

Prepare to step into “The Circle”!

VALLORCH was born in December 2010, when Marco Munari (NewSun), Matteo Patuelli (Alzhagoth), and Massimo Benetazzo came up with the idea right after attending a concert together. Inspired by the energy and spirit of the event, they decided to form their own band, and the name VALLORCH—taken from a small Cimbrian village on the Cansiglio plateau—was quickly chosen as a tribute to their cultural roots.

For the first year, VALLORCH experimented with different sounds and musicians, searching for the right lineup. By January 2012, the group solidified with the addition of vocalist/flutist Sara, vocalist/bassist Leonardo Dalla Via, multi-instrumentalist Andrea ‘Demetrio’ Rampin (playing tin whistle, bagpipes, accordion), and violinist Francesco Salviato. This seven-member ensemble debuted live in March 2012, promoting their newly released EP Stories of North. Their captivating blend of folk metal quickly gained traction, earning them recognition in the Italian scene and leading to performances at events like Fosch Fest, where they opened for major bands.

However, the summer of 2012 brought changes. Violinist Francesco parted ways with the band, and Martina Mezzalira took his place. Around the same time, VALLORCH signed a record deal with Moonlight Records and entered the studio to work on their first full-length album. Released in 2013, Neverfade was met with critical and fan acclaim, blending fast-paced, melodic jigs with guttural and clean vocals, alongside powerful death metal riffs. This success landed them performances at major international festivals like Metaldays.

2014 saw further lineup shifts. Andrea Demetrio Rampin left the band, replaced by Paolo Pesce on accordion, hurdy-gurdy, and keyboards. Meanwhile, vocalist Sara took over tin whistle and bagpipe duties. Founding member Matteo Patuelli also stepped down, making way for guitarist Mattia Buggin to join. Despite these changes, VALLORCH pressed forward, embarking on their first European tour with Artaius. They played in Germany, Czechia, France, Belgium, and Slovakia, culminating in a performance opening for Mägo de Oz at the Metal for Emergency festival.

Later that year, they returned to the studio to record their second full-length album, Until Our Tale Is Told (2015). The album reflected the band’s growing compositional maturity and led to more festival appearances and live shows over the next two years.

In 2016, Riccardo Gianni briefly joined the band as a violinist, performing at several major local festivals. However, by 2019, the band was once again at a crossroads. After a series of lineup changes and creative challenges, founding member Marco Munari decided to leave the group. The remaining members—Massimo, Sara, Leo, Mattia, and Marco—faced a difficult choice: either disband or evolve. They chose to reinvent themselves as a five-piece band.

The global restrictions from 2020 to 2022 made live performances difficult, but the band used this time to focus on writing new material. By 2023, VALLORCH returned to the stage, opening for renowned acts like Alestorm, Wind Rose, and Rhapsody Of Fire.

Now, in 2025, VALLORCH is set to release their highly anticipated new album, “The Circle”, marking a triumphant return. Reborn from the ashes of their former selves, they are ready to take the world by storm once again.

CRADLE OF FILTH Drops Devilish Third Single “White Hellebore” + New Music Video

Following their acclaimed recent single, “To Live Deliciously”, and its exquisitely twisted music video, GRAMMY Award-nominated extreme metal institution CRADLE OF FILTH are back to give fans more of the sinful sounds they crave with “White Hellebore”, another bewitching new single and music video.

Featured on the band’s highly-anticipated upcoming 14th studio album, The Screaming Of The Valkyries (March 21, 2025 / Napalm Records), “White Hellebore” is devilishly direct, juxtaposing traditional heavy metal with blasts of thrashing fury, then spinning back to operatic goth while remaining cohesive. The track’s must-see new music video was directed by Shaun Hodson.

CRADLE OF FILTH mastermind Dani Filthsays about the song and video:
“The wintertime flower of the title reminds us scintillatingly of our own mortality, flourishing in seasons of dying light and cold, frozen earth.

Blossoming in the shadows, this Hellebore’s flowers draw us deeply into the stygian darkness with her.

In context of this song, the White Hellebore of the title is an alluring woman not too distant in danger from the predatory black widow, fostering both hope and despair;
A poison and an elixir, she is stunning to behold but ever deadly to taste.

This video -reeking of Lovecraftian gothic horror-  presents the White Hellebore as a movie starlet who survives the grave through her dalliances with dark occult forces, a necromantic mystic tryst that an overzealous morgue attendant encounters with terrifying results, complimenting the song’s unholy matrimony of melody and mayhem.”
Watch the Music Video for “White Hellebore” HERE:

Following the release of 2021’s Existence Is Futile (#20 Billboard 200 with Hard Rock Genre), CRADLE OF FILTH emerge again with a legacy-cementing opus. On The Screaming Of The Valkyries, Dani Filth’s recognizable scream and equally identifiable growl stand mightily alongside twin guitar attacks, symphonic flourishes and explosive rhythm section, implemented by drummer Martin “Marthus” Skaroupka, bassist Daniel Firth, guitarists Marek “Ashok” Smerda and Donny Burbage, and keyboardist/vocalist Zoe Federoff.

Menacing album opener “To Live Deliciously” hits immediately with rhythmic urgency, built around a Libertine lyrical hook that twists and writhes with aggression, atmosphere, and melody, before “Demagoguery” blends dark beauty, blast beats and slaytanic groove as only Cradle can combine. Across the album’s blunt and unforgiving yet inviting expanse, Cradle summons the succulent flavors of classic albums like Dusk And Her Embrace and Cruelty And The Beast with the galloping (but no less fierce) thunder of recent entries Hammer Of The Witches and Existence Is Futile. Flashes of early metal influences coalesce with carnivorous glee into unapologetic death ‘n’ roll. Anchored by arguably the most mournful melody in their catalog, “Non Omnis Moriar” (“I shall not wholly die”) could be a cousin to Paradise Lost or Anathema, inverted through Cradle’s thorny prism. “You Are My Nautilus” is the darkest song Iron Maiden never wrote, spinning an epic tale with dueling guitars, while “Ex Sanguine Draculae” conjures Dusk-era atmosphere with imaginative new colors.

Produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Scott Atkins at Grindstone Studios in Suffolk, England, The Screaming of the Valkyries beckons the brave into a new era of CRADLE OF FILTH misadventure, celebrating massive melancholic melody, blackened thrash, and apocalyptic existential dread with a grinning smattering of unbridled revelry. The Screaming of the Valkyries is a bloody dark love letter to the longtime legion of CRADLE OF FILTH faithful and a stunning entryway for fresh lambs to the sonic slaughter.

WARBRINGER Unveil Ghoulish Third Single “Through A Glass, Darkly”

“These guys just keep getting better.” – Heavy Consequence

“…an all-out ripper that‘ll fuel you for days to come” – Revolver on lead single “A Better World”

Modern thrash titans WARBRINGER are preparing to unleash their highly anticipated new album Wrath And Ruin, out this Friday, March 14, 2025 via Napalm Records. Today, they unlock the tomb containing their ghoulish third single “Through A Glass, Darkly”, emerging alongside a shell-shocked official music video.

The mini epic “Through A Glass, Darkly”, was inspired by a poem from WWII general George Patton, insisting that he was the reincarnation of an eternal warrior spirit who has fought and died on countless battlefields throughout history. Conjuring the undead with gothic guitar stylings, and mid-paced, brooding tension, WARBRINGER crafts an atmosphere so tangible, you‘ll be coughing from the dust off the crypt.

About the single, frontman John Kevill says:
“Here’s the third single from Wrath and Ruin, the epic ’Through a Glass, Darkly.‘ We chose this one as a single to showcase the range and breadth of this album, offering something totally different from the first two singles here. This one has an epic and dark, mystical quality to it, as well as a real fist-raising energy. The song is about an eternally reincarnating warrior, who recounts his struggles and pains across the battlefields of time. This is based on a poem by the WW2 general George Patton, and apparently the man truly believed himself to be the reincarnation of this eternal warrior.

“To me, this idea had a lot of power and resonance, and works as a powerful metaphor for the ongoing human struggle we all face. I also thought his poem had some really great lines, some of which are incorporated here. The track, penned by Carlos Cruz, was an attempt to get the epic feel we had on songs like ’Defiance of Fate‘ and ’When the Guns Fell Silent‘ into a shorter runtime package, a ’pocket epic‘ if you will. I particularly love the soulful solo by Adam Carroll here, and I think the end passage is one of the finest vocal moments on the record. Here’s a song to look at the sky to and stoically contemplate time and legacy… we hope you all enjoy ’Through a Glass, Darkly‘ and the rest of Wrath and Ruin.”

Wrath And Ruin‘s destructive opening duo of “The Sword And The Cross” and “A Better World” quickly kick the gates of cataclysm open with broodingly dark guitar work and virtuosic precision. Frontman John Kevill‘s passionate proclamations are as potent as ever, mocking those who scoffed at clear harbingers of societal collapse with their misguided optimism. “Neuromancer” rides low and steady with blast master Carlos Cruz putting some serious stank on an irresistible battle vest fist pumper. “The Jackhammer” sees the band explode into a frenzy with chaotic riffage and ear splitting pinch dives. “Through A Glass, Darkly” indulges in deliciously gothic chord work and melodic leads embellishing Kevill‘s already hellish vocal fry. “Strike From The Sky” is trademark thrash excellence quickly followed by the atmospheric, true cult epic “Cage Of Air,” with its tensely ornate dueling guitars on full display. Album closer “The Last Of My Kind” continues this dark gothic path with syncopated octave runs dancing around tightly dueling melodeath riffage. Wrath And Ruin sees WARBRINGER indulging in the darker elements of their sound, for an uncompromising and unflinching exploration of life‘s most bitter pills.

WARBRINGER also recently announced a North American co-headline tour with death metal stalwarts Allegaeon, as well as a European Tour supporting Decapitated and Cryptopsy, in addition to select festival appearances and German dates supporting Kreator.

RIVERS OF NIHIL Releases “American Death” Video/Single

“American Death” is the latest single from progressive death metal progenitors RIVERS OF NIHIL. The ferocious new track — a true-to-form beater that‘s sure to slay live — comes by way of the band‘s eponymous fifth full-length, set for release on May 30th via Metal Blade Records.

Watch it HERE:

Comments founding guitarist Brody Uttley. “’American Death‘ is a title that we‘ve been throwing around and printing on our T-shirts since 2013. We figured it was finally time to write a song with that title, and given the subject matter of the lyrics, it would only make sense for this song to be a true ass beater. It‘s definitely the most true form ’heavy‘ song of these singles, so we are very much looking forward to playing it live.”

Sixteen years and five albums into the Pennsylvania band‘s career, RIVERS OF NIHIL is upping the ante with Rivers Of Nihil. Traditionally, a self-titled record can signal a return to basics and/or a fresh beginning, and in ten powerful songs, it‘s clear that both those factors are in play. Founding bassist Adam Biggs became the band‘s new lead vocalist/bassist in 2023; the same year marked the appearance of additional guitarist Andy Thomas (ex-Black Crown Initiate), whose vocals also play prominently on Rivers Of Nihil. Producers Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland at Atrium Audio captured the new dynamics across more than fifty minutes of music.
On June 15th, 2023, the band released the single, “The Sub-Orbital Blues,” the first track with Biggs handling lead vocals following the 2022 departure of singer Jake Dieffenbach. It was also the first track to feature Thomas. A second single, “Hellbirds,” dropped on October 19th of that year. On April 29th, 2024, the band released the cut “Criminals” and an accompanying music video. Both “Criminals” and “The Sub-Orbital Blues” appear on Rivers Of Nihil.

Rivers Of Nihil was created in a very “rock n‘ roll” manner. “On 2021‘s The Work, I wrote a lot of the record on the piano and then the band filled in the gaps,” explains Uttley. “On this new record, I wanted to make sure that this stuff would hit hard live with just the four of us before adding in all of the sparkly auxiliary ’frosting‘ on top.”.

Rivers Of Nihil also showcases additional musicians, including Patrick Corona on alto saxophone, Stephan Lopez on banjo, McFarland on cello, and a slate of other guest vocalists. Despite the fresh approach on Rivers Of Nihil however, the album still fits neatly into the band‘s discography. With Where Owls Know My Name (2018), RIVERS OF NIHIL transcended all labels applied to them, and with its 2021 follow-up, The Work, they forged further into new territory with Metal Injection calling the latter album “the group‘s most cohesive, ambitious, meditative, and varied effort, with greater uses of philosophical significance and transcendental respites.”
Writes Revolver in an early preview of the record, “…their forthcoming self-titled album… specializes in metronome-exploding kick work, riffs brawnier than a full-grown Kodiak, and a vocal tandem of soaring highs (guitarist Andy Thomas) and demonic lows (bassist Adam Biggs).”

Polish Progressive Metal Discovery Wind Down Sign With Wormholedeath

Polish progressive metal quintet Wind Down has inked a licensing deal with Wormholedeath Records for their highly anticipated album, The Burning Past, slated for release on April 18, 2025.

Formed in 2021 by Damian “Blady” Jurek and Wojciech “Świerszcz” Wojtyczek, founding members of Thetragon, Wind Down quickly grew into a formidable unit with the additions of Kuba Czubik, Władysław Zawojski, and Marcin Borula. The band’s journey began with the release of their debut EP, Uśpieni Ludzie (Euthanised People), which garnered widespread praise, thanks to its title track and accompanying music video.Building on the momentum, Wind Down toured extensively, sharing stages with international metal heavyweights like Necronomicon (Germany), Stonecast (France), and 3000AD (New Zealand), alongside prominent Polish acts such as Iscariota, Styxx, and Subterfuge. In 2023, the lineup evolved, bringing in Franciszek Trybus and Tomasz Wiśniewski (formerly of Thetragon and Kruk) to solidify their sound. By April 2024, the band began recording their debut full-length album at Hertz Studio, with the final touches—mixing and mastering—handled by Ergosphere Studios.

The Concept Behind The Burning Past

More than just an album, The Burning Past is a profound concept piece inspired by Native American Indian culture, shamanic rituals, and the cosmic connection between human souls and extraterrestrial energy. The record is a transformative journey that blends introspection with a broader, spiritual narrative, delivered through intricate melodies and evocative lyrics.Wind Down’s approach is steeped in authenticity, drawing inspiration from luminaries like Nevermore, Alter Bridge, and Dream Theater while carving out a unique identity in the Progressive Groove Metal genre. The album’s fusion of technical precision, melodic harmonies, and thunderous riffs creates a sound that is as innovative as it is powerful.

Live and Ready to Ignite
Wind Down’s dynamic live performances continue to captivate audiences, including notable appearances alongside Slovak band Gloom and at events such as the Wrath of Gods Vol. 5 Mini Fest (2023) and the Rock Pod Kameňom festival in Slovakia (2024), where they shared the stage with acts like Trauma, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, HammerFall, and Eleine.

With the release of The Burning Past, Wind Down is set to solidify its reputation as a fresh and groundbreaking force in the progressive metal scene.

Metal Planet Media Talks To…Lea from Dark Lightning (vocals)

Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band and a little bit about the various members?

Lea: In the history of there band there was a lot of coming and going of band members and actually I am the last founding member. You can even hear the development and influences of different people in the songs we have published so far. On Our EP (Self titled “Dark Lightning”) you can hear songs from the very beginning, that were written in the basement of our first drummer and then later recorded in our current rehearsal room and they were a total group effort. The two songs of our Single “Lilith” were mainly written by our former Lead Guitarist. And now begins the new chapter as the project has grown.

Our bass guitarist, Frank had once described the forming and the growth of Dark Lightning as “very organic” and that feels like an extremely fitting description.

As for origin of the band name is not exactly spectacular. Back when we had just formed and roughly outlined what kind of music we had in mind we basically just brain stormed band names that sounded good and roughly fitted into the theme and genre. Back then I was often inspired by the idea that not everything is as it seems and how opposites attract, etc. and one of my former band mates had the idea: Well, what is the opposite of light? Correct – dark. So let’s put these two things together and make it a band name! That is the story of the name Dark Lightning.

Right now our Line-Up is:

Alex – Guitarist and main songwriter, Frank – Bass Guitarist and harsh vocals as well as sound mixer, Marvin – pianist and the sticky something that holds the group together ;), Nepo – Drummer and this bands tech specialist, Mike – Lead Guitarist and fashion expert  and finally me, Lea – Clean and harsh vocals, lyrics writer and band-mom

Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?

Lea: Yes, we are roughly from the same area, which is also how we got together. Each of us searched for like minded musicians or a band to join forces with so to speak in the area of Braunschweig. Though two years ago I moved a bit further away, but we make it work.

Who are your favorite artists/bands and how have they influenced your own sound?

Lea: I can’t really put my finger of who or what influenced me in particular. I like a lot of bands from different genres and developed the ambition to unlock all sound possible with my voice and combine them in the music I make. I started out in a choir singing mainly classical, then had one on one singing lessons with various vocal coaches to unlock other styles of clean singing and semi self taught myself screams and growls. Musically I feel inspired by dark and destructive melodies, some more folky, some more classical or even modern, but all that is part of my personal development as a singer. My lyrics probably come from the darker parts of my brain, influenced by how I perceive the world, my feelings and some works of fiction I consume.

Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band or did you originally have other plans?

Lea: Yes, I always knew that I wanted to sing. It is my passion. The desire to stand on a stage with a band came later, when I was tired of being just on of many in a choir. So I worked up the courage it takes to stand in the spotlight and founded a band.

What songs or albums are on your current playlist?

Lea: To list all the albums and Songs would take far too long. I have a playlist that consists of over 70 hours of music on Spotify I listen to regularly, so let’s narrow it down to naming some of the artists: Shadow Of Intent, In Flames, System Of A Down, White Chapel, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Stillbirth, Lorna Shore, Linkin Park, League Of Distortion, Eight Lives Down…. I could go on, but I think this will give you a good idea of what I am into at the moment. But please be aware that this covers only one side of my taste in music.

Do you sing in the shower?

Lea: Yes, I like to find resonating frequencies and then form melodies around them. But I only do that when I’m home alone for reasons unknown even to myself.

If you could play at any venue in the world where would you choose?

Lea: Achievable goals first. The Rockharz Festival in Ballenstedt Germany. I go there almost every year since 2017, it was my first metal festival and it would be just a dream for me to play at a place I have so many great memories of.

And beyond that, honestly I have no idea.

Do you have a favorite album? If so, what is it?

Lea: To keep the answer short: No.

Do you have any guilty pleasure songs/albums?

Lea: Absolutely yes! “Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears, “Hooked On A Feeling”, “Langweilig” by Die Ärzte, “Maria (I Like It Loud)” by Scooter. And I am not ashamed to name these.

If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be playing?

Lea: There is just too much to choose from for me. But it would certainly take place on just one stage (at least at a time), so you don’t have to choose between two great artists.

Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What was it and do you still have it?

Lea: I guess gifts don’t count, so I think that might have been “Schwarz In Schwarz” by Subway To Sally in its release year, as I was starting to get into heavier music. And yes I still have the physical CD.

As your fans will be reading this, is there any message you would like to send out to them?

Lea: Just a big Thank You to all of you for listening to our music and coming to our concerts! We do this because we like making music and want to share what we make with the world, so thank you for just being there.

Finally, let us know all your social media sites so your fans, old and new, can find and follow/like you!

Lea: We are on Instagram and Facebook and have a website where you can subscribe to our newsletter as well.

We, at Metal Planet Media, would like to thank you for your time. Is there is anything further that you would like to add?

Lea: Thanks for the interview. We appreciate each and everyone who truly supports the metal community.

LORD OF THE LOST Unveils New Album Trilogy, Beginning With “OPVS NOIR Vol. 1”!

A work, a transformation, a re-entry into the melancholic self – OPVS NOIR is in no danger of becoming an offspring of understatement, neither in its title nor in its musical opulence. And rightly so: Not only will it be the first album as a six-piece band, but it also marks the beginning of an entire album trilogy, set to be released in multiple editions, including, of course, strictly limited collector’s items.

Each volume contains 11 songs, totaling 33 tracks that not only conclude the delightfully eccentric chapter of Blood & Glitter, but also initiate an uncompromising return to the dark core of the band. While LORD OF THE LOST previously found themselves in the spotlight of vast open stages, OPVS NOIR Vol. 1, set for release on August 8, 2025 via Napalm Records, represents a confident descent into previously untouched emotional depths.

Chris Harms about the album:
“Darkness, melancholy, loneliness – all words that often have negative connotations, that we may associate with danger, sadness and loss, and not without reason. But darkness can also be security, melancholy the warm and sentimental feeling of our memories, and loneliness becomes necessary silence, peace and inner contemplation. OPVS NOIR is a travel guide, or perhaps also a travelogue, through the dark sides of our inner world, which so often move precisely in the area of tension between what we emotionally categorize as positive or negative. And with Vol. 1, all of this is just the beginning of this 3-part journey…”

OPVS NOIR is not only a musically exciting step but also a bold one! This becomes clear when looking at LORD OF THE LOST‘s immediate past: support for IRON MAIDEN on two European tours, followed by their first North American shows in over a decade, sold-out headlining tours, participation in the final of the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2023, a #1 chart entry with the previous album Blood & Glitter, celebrated performances at the biggest festivals worldwide – they even had the honour of meeting King Charles in person. Hand on heart: How easy would it have been to keep riding this wave of success just a little longer? But that’s not how LORD OF THE LOST operates – the only constant remains change.

But what is the essence of LORD OF THE LOST in 2025? That is one of the questions OPVS NOIR Vol. 1 fearlessly begins to answer. Once again, the band proves not only musical excellence but also masterful craftsmanship: Produced by Chris Harms, recorded, mixed, and mastered at the legendary CHAMELEON STUDIOS in Hamburg, the 11 tracks hit with a force and brilliance that immediately transport us into a dark yet colourful ballroom. From there, the tone is set: Dark Wave Metal on an amphitheater scale.

Everything is new, yet every note feels familiar. Behind each chorus awaits a surprise, in every line, a new door opens to further uncharted paths within the LOTL universe. This band takes the expectations of its ever-growing fanbase and molds them into songs that transcend genre boundaries – and turn moments into monuments that carry us all along: No one lost behind!

OPVS NOIR Vol. 1: To be continued…
