CIRITH UNGOL To Release Live At The Roxy

One of the world‘s most iconic music venues – the Sunset Strip‘s Roxy Theatre – hosted a legendary 2024 gig by one of the world‘s most iconic metal bands, CIRITH UNGOL. The one-night-only performance was an album release show for the band‘s 2023 Dark Parade LP. It captured the lineup at the height of its considerable powers, performing Dark Parade in its entirety, along with a set of classic songs including “Join The Legion,” “Frost And Fire,” “Black Machine,” and “Atom Smasher.” The end result is a stellar live album and DVD.

There was no choice other than the Roxy for CIRITH UNGOL to record this momentous live collection. “It‘s owned by a Hollywood music legend, Lou Adler,” notes cofounding drummer Rob Garven, “and is next door to the famous Rainbow Bar and Grill. It‘s a landmark Hollywood club, which includes the Whisky and The Starwood [now gone] so every time we played one of these historic venues, it was a special occasion. It was great to see many of our friends and fans from all over the world at the show.”

Adds bassist Jarvis Leatherby, “For years, there has been a live bootleg record famous in the underground from their last appearance there in1984 titled Cirith Ungol, Live At The Roxy. I felt it fitting for the band to return there 40 years later to officially document a live performance in a way the guys would be proud of. Metal Blade Records, The Adlers, Nanotear, and Goldenvoice all came together in support to actually make it happen.”

CIRITH UNGOL‘s Live At The Roxy holds its own against other legendary live records. “The Who made an extremely powerful album with Live At Leeds, my favorite band of all time, Mountain, had several pretty spectacular live albums, and 1993‘s Uriah Heep Live is another outstanding live album! It‘s hard to accurately capture all the sound and feeling of a live concert. I think these bands achieved that, and I think our Live At The Roxy does also.”

Live At The Roxy will be released on April 25th via Metal Blade Records. In advance of its official unveiling, today the band presents a taste of the monumental event with video footage of “Down Below,”

Comments Garven, “This song strung together by the haunting acoustic guitar is a gift to all of you on this Doomed Planet! It was, and is, the culmination of all the pain and suffering absorbed into our being from the pandemic, the lost lives, cancelled shows, isolation, and stimuli deprivation. It features some of my best drumming and one of [guitarist] Jimmy [Barraza]‘s best solos. As the song rises to the ultimate crescendo, all this pent-up emotion is unleashed on the listener with our final gasping breath. Truly a churning maelstrom of metal chaos descending!”

UNDECAYED: Swedish death metallers to release “In Death’s Image” debut album in May

wedish death metal force UNDECAYED will unleash their long-awaited debut album, “In Death’s Image”, on May 21st, 2025, via Lethal Scissor Records.

Despite their origins, the band eschews the traditional HM-2-driven Swedish sound in favor of a raw and relentless approach deeply rooted in the ferocity of ’90s American death metal, recalling the percussive onslaught of Suffocation and the unholy aggression of Deicide. However, the album does not shy away from the merciless intensity of certain European acts, channeling the sheer force of early Sinister, Aeon and Severe Torture into a blistering assault of unfiltered death worship.

Likely the first album ever released with the word ‘death’ in the title of every song, “In Death’s Image” takes its thematic obsession to another level: in one track, the word for ‘death’ is even sung in 19 different languages. The album’s lyrics paint a grim and absolute vision of annihilation—”Death” arrives on Earth in a physical form, surpassing any concept of a god, to extinguish all existence. No one and nothing is spared: humans, animals, vegetation, water, air—everything dies. There is NO hope for life.

The first single “Death’s Only Demand” is now streaming:

Tracklist:

1 – The World Shall Know Only Death
2 – Death’s Only Demand
3 – The Descendants Of Death
4 – In Death’s Image
5 – Death Shall Come (Death Shall Prevail)
6 – Death’s Pallid Coat
7 – World At Death’s Door
8 – Entreating Death In Vain
9 – The Greatest Death

All music composed by Mikael Bergman
All lyrics written by Tony Richter
Cover artwork by renowned artist Jon Zig

Biography:

UNDECAYED was formed in August 2008 by Tony Richter (vocals) and Mikael Bergman (guitars) as a result of lineup issues in their respective bands, 9th Plague and Disromance. The two had played together in several bands throughout the ’90s and early 2000s, most notably Gardens of Obscurity and The Darksend. Initially, Richter and Bergman were joined by Disromance drummer Johnny Augustsson. Bassist Christoffer Svensson joined in 2009, and in 2014, drummer Jesper Leidbring replaced Augustsson.

The idea that every song should include the word “death” in its title emerged in 2010, both to emphasize that this was true DEATH metal and because such a concept had never been done before. The demo “The Triumph of Death” was recorded in late 2010 and released in January 2011. It was then decided that no further demos would be released before the debut album.

Over the years, family matters, work commitments, health issues, the loss of two rehearsal spaces, and lineup changes all contributed to periods of forced inactivity and delays. It wasn’t until the Covid-19 pandemic that the band was finally able to complete their album “In Death’s Image”.

Line-up:

Tony Richter – vocals
Mikael Bergman – guitars
Christoffer Svensson – bass
Jesper Leidbring – drums

Watch CATTLE DECAPITATION “Solastalgia” video HERE:

Though many bands have tried, no one articulates the real apocalypse humanity is facing as vividly and succinctly as CATTLE DECAPITATION. With 2019’s Death Atlas, they reached the apex of this, perhaps leading some to believe they had no place left to go beyond such an achievement, but alas, the band returned with Terrasite, which is as bold a statement as they have ever made. Roaring to life with the savage yet hauntingly melodic “Terrasitic Adaptation” and advancing through the likes of the relentless “We Eat Our Young” and culminating with the ten-plus minutes of “Just Another Body,” Terrasite is an album that constantly shifts dynamics and demands a variety of emotional responses. The record crushed Billboard charts upon its first week of release, earning the #2 position on the Current Hard Music Albums chart, #3 on the Current Independent Albums chart, #4 on the Rock Albums chart and more!

Terrasite features the artwork by longtime collaborator Wes Benscoter (Vader, Kreator, Bloodbath, Hypocrisy), was produced by Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Allegaeon) and includes Dis Pater of Midnight Odyssey handling piano and synths.

“This little ditty is quite catchy! Even though it ́s fast and furious. We wanted for once to start a track with the chorus directly and that ́s what we did here”, Vocalist Gerrit P. Mutz reveals. “I recently watched the full season of “Ash vs. The Evil Dead” again and remembered that I once took the inspiration for the lyrics to this track from that phenomenal series. All hail metal! All hail Ash!”

KARDASHEV Unleashes “Seed Of The Night” Video/Single

“Seed Of The Night” is the latest single from progressive deathgaze alchemists, KARDASHEV. The emotional new track comes off the band‘s Alunea full-length, set for release on April 25th on Metal Blade Records.

Alunea is a direct sequel to the events of The Almanac and picks up right where the song “Beyond Sun And Moon” leaves off. Vocalist Mark Garrett comments, “The first releases in The KARDASHEV Mythos were broad and conceptual, but they‘ve morphed into something more granular and specific. Alunea tells the story of the main character from The Almanac album meeting a being created in the song ’Continuum‘ from the Excipio album. Their meeting is a philosophical examination of where responsibility and duty intersect. We don‘t try to answer those questions, but we do examine them deeply in this album.”

Garrett further elaborates on their latest single, “’Seed Of The Night” involves Sky-Brother telling the being of their destiny. He explains they were created to bring life to a planet that humanity could never be able to reach, and to continue mankind’s legacy. The being feels burdened by the responsibility and takes on the name ’Atlas‘ to represent the weight of their perceived destiny.

“Musically, this song was written as a progressive exploration in composition as it sees what the band refers to as ’the funk-down‘ when the traditional composition of a deathcore-style breakdown is enhanced into a melody throughout the rhythm section as opposed to the often-overused simplicity of ’Chug Chug Chug.‘”

Adds guitarist Nico Mirolla, “We (collectively) can find ourselves depending too much on the most powerful moments of music going so far as to make it into an entire composition of ’that moment‘ when in reality that approach can devalue the once powerful moment of something like an open chord breakdown. This song was an opportunity to break that mold, and hopefully people feel that.”

New York’s ARC Release New Video For “Ghost Lights” Ahead Of April Tour Dates With VISIONS OF ATLANTIS

Genre-defying metal NYC outfit ARC will be joining symphonic metal maestros Visions of Atlantis for two exclusive shows this April, bringing their extraordinary multimedia spectacle to lucky fans in Mechanicsburg, PA, and Brooklyn, NY. Ahead of this, they are releasing the video for their single “Ghost Lights,” which comes off the 2023 EP “Awaken The Machine”.

Founded on visionary Sonny Angell’s ambition to create a performance-based band with boundary-pushing music, ARC has rapidly established itself as one of the most innovative acts in modern metal. The band’s philosophy ‘ARC EVOLVES’ drives their constant reinvention and elevation of both their sound and stage presence. They comment on what is in store:

“We constantly try to raise the bar, enhance our stage show, expand our thematic elements, and experiment with different musical styles. ARC is ambiguously mysterious, ARC is energy and machines. Human interpretations are on stage playing the music, however, ARC is all around us. Information being transmitted from… Somewhere in parts of your brain, you didn’t know you had.”

The band performs with meticulously planned choreography, custom costumes, specialized stage lighting, props, and synchronized on-screen visuals—all managed by a dedicated stage manager who travels with the band exclusively to orchestrate their technical production.

ARC‘s music seamlessly fuses the brutality and melody of extreme metal with retro-futuristic synth-wave electronica, creating an all-out assault on the senses. Their frenetic live shows combine lasers, smoke, blood, sweat, and the band’s relentless energy in a performance experience that must be witnessed to be believed. They are recommended for fans of Rammstein, Dark Tranquility, and Dance with the Dead.

Watch and listen to the video from “Ghost Lights”:

Metal Planet Media Talks To…Eric from DERELICT

Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band and a little bit about the various members?

Derelict was formed in 2005 from the remains of some of the original members’ previous band. We took the name from the song ‘Flames of the Righteous’ off our debut album. The song was originally called ‘Derelict’ but we liked it as a band name.

We were very active in the live scene around Canada from 2005 to 2013. We toured the country several times in that period and released three full-length albums and an EP. Our 2012 album, ‘Perpetuation’, got us nominated at the Canadian Independent Music Awards in the same category as Devin Townsend. He won, but we were stoked just to have been mentioned alongside him.

Sometime in 2013, our then-drummer was dealing with a double tennis elbow and needed some time to heal. This came right around the same period where we were hit with several bouts of bad luck, like having festivals cancel on us at the last minute, or others simply not paying us. Several of us got discouraged and after going full-tilt for eight years, we put the band on ice.

We never said never about continuing, but it wasn’t until 2021 that Max and I were chatting about guitar. We decided to see what it would feel like to write a Derelict song together after all that time. We ended up reuniting the ‘Perpetuation’ recording lineup to put out ‘Clear Cut’, a single that we released on the ten-year anniversary of ‘Perpetuation’.

From there, we just continued writing and quickly found ourselves with a full-length album. Jordan bowed out and we were joined by Tommy McKinnon on drums. The other major difference is that all four of us live in different time zones across the world, so we write and record remotely. That said, it all went very well and we’re very proud of ‘Versus Entropy’, which we just released this June of 2024.

Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?

The band formed in Montreal, Quebec. Max and I met in university there. Seb is from Switzerland but lived in Montreal for a while and played in Augury’s live lineup at the time. We met him then and he became our bass player later on. Tommy has been in many bands like Neuraxis and Akurion, and is also from Montreal. We had met a few times and we reached out to him when we needed a new drummer. He was our first choice, and happily, he accepted.

Who are your favourite artists/bands and how have they influenced your own sound?

We’re heavily influenced by the Quebec scene with bands like Cryptopsy, Neuraxis, Beneath the Massacre, Augury, Kataklysm, Quo Vadis, and more making up some of our core influences. We also incorporate a fair amount of American death metal, specifically the early tech-death pioneers like Death and Atheist. A range of modern bands like Lamb of God, The Faceless, Revocation, and Decapitated also influence us quite a bit.

Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band or did you originally have other plans?

I started playing guitar at age 13 and writing my own music almost right away. My feelings about being a musician have changed over time, but I’ve come to believe that making any kind of art is inherent to humans. The way our system works causes us to evaluate the validity of an activity on if it can earn money, and that’s a shame because art is valid whether or not it’s profitable. In our case, Derelict does not make us any money. If it did, that would be great, but I wouldn’t change what we do to make that possible. I believe in the music we make. We all have other careers beyond this. For me, that’s being a mental health therapist.

What songs or albums are on your current playlist?

I’m currently getting to know the new Extinction AD album. So far, some of my favourites from 2024 have been Ulcerate, Vitriol, Evergrey, and Wormwitch. I’m really looking forward to the new Nile album, too.

Do you sing in the shower?

Once in a while, if I’m in a particularly good mood.

If you could play at any venue in the world where would you choose?

I’d love to play at any big outdoor European festival.

Do you have a favourite album? If so, what is it?

I don’t have one favourite, but here are a few that are undeniable classics in my mind and continue to influence me:

Megadeth – Rust In Peace

Lamb of God – As the Palaces Burn

Nile – Annihilation of the Wicked

Death – The Sound of Perseverance

Cryptopsy – None So Vile

Do you have any guilty pleasure songs/albums?

No, because I don’t think we should ever feel guilty for liking what we like. I listen to a fair amount of hip hop, like Killer Mike and J Cole, and I’m also into some slow alt jazz stuff, like Bohren and der Club of Gore and Black Chamber.

If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be playing?

Pantera (the original lineup), Death with Chuck, and Motorhead.

Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What was it and do you still have it?

It was Metallica’s …And Justice For All. I was nine years old. I liked the Black Album, but at first, Justice freaked me the hell out. The lyrics are really heavy and dark for a child’s mind. I think it influenced me a lot. I wasn’t able to stomach it for the first few years and only pulled it back out when I was 11. I don’t have the CD any longer though; I’m all digital for music now.

As your fans will be reading this, is there any message you would like to send out to them?

Just that I’m immensely appreciative to anyone who has ever given us a listen. Making music is just about sharing emotion and creativity, and having people pay attention is very validating.

Metal Planet Media Talks To…Manual Barbara

Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band and a little bit about the various members?

  • This project came together when I decided to take a bunch of music I had written for a couple of failed bands and release them under my own name. I treat it as a vehicle for me to be able to make pretty much whatever I want.

Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?

  • I’ve known myself since birth! Many of my guest performers and collaborators are old friends and colleagues from college.

Who are your favourite artists/bands and how have they influenced your own sound?

  • I got into music via classic rock and metal, particularly Pink Floyd and Iron Maiden. Nowadays, I take a lot of ideas from bands like Periphery, Tesseract, Monuments, Meshuggah… but my love for the more modern styles of “classical” music (as well as Bach and his counterpoint) informs a lot of my decisions when it comes to harmony and shape.

Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band or did you originally have other plans?

  • No, I didn’t really care much about music until high school. I was sure I would end up as an engineer or something.

What songs or albums are on your current playlist?

  • I’ve been listening to a lot of synthwave lately – particularly The Midnight’s Days of Thunder and GUNSHIP’s Unicorn. On the metal side, Monuments’ In Stasis and Allagaeon’s Damnum have been putting in a lot of work for me.

Do you sing in the shower?

  • Occasionally, usually when I’m making a token effort to practice my solfege or trying to work out an idea.

If you could play at any venue in the world where would you choose?

  • I’ve always thought the Orpheum in Boston was a cool theatre.

Do you have a favourite album? If so, what is it?

  • Man, that’s a difficult question. If you force me to name one, it’ll change every day. Today, it’s probably War of Being by Tesseract.

Do you have any guilty pleasure songs/albums?

  • I don’t feel guilty about any of the music I like. Although there are some bands like Dragonforce and Sabaton that do one specific kinda silly thing and are the only place where I can get that thing.

If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be playing?

  • I’ve always thought a bill with Leprous, Gojira, and Meshuggah would be awesome.

Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What was it and do you still have it?

  • I’m honestly not sure. It might have been Shinedown’s Leave a Whisper.

As your fans will be reading this, is there any message you would like to send out to them?

  • Thanks for listening! Hope you like the EP!

Finally, let us know all your social media sites so your fans, old and new, can find and follow/like you!

We, at Metal Planet Media, would like to thank you for your time. Is there is anything further that you would like to add?

  • I hope everyone has as much fun listening to Whisper as I had making it. Also, go check out Necronomicon Ex Mortis, my death metal band, and The Airborn Sealife Podcast, where I and two other metal nerds talk about music for 45 minutes every week.
